Business
Tasty Nu Bakery avoids closure
By Scott Nixon
TIMES -ADVOCATE ATE STAFF
EXETER — A desire to
keep Main Street store-
fronts full led Ernie and
Ilelen Miatello to buy the
Tasty Nu Bakery before it
went out of business.
The Miatellos, owners
of Huron Apothecary,
officially took over the
business on April 19 and
will soon be changing the
name to Exeter's
Homestyle Bakeshop.
Helen Miatello told the
T -A that Exeter needs a
bakeshop at the south
end of Main Street and,
after hearing Huron
Apothecary customers
say they were feeling bad
about Tasty Nu's impend-
ing closure, she and her
husband decided to buy
the business.
"I hated to see it close,"
Miatello said of Tasty Nu,
adding that former own-
ers Doug and Ruth Desch
will continue rt: nning
their, "Pasty Nu locations
in Zurich and Sediorth.
The Oeschs will also
continue supplying the
baked goods to the
Exeter location.
Miatello said business is
strong at Tasty Nu and
said there will be minor
changes to the business
such as an expanded
lunch menu. Basically,
though, she said the busi-
ness will remain the
same, with the new
Exeter Homestyle
Bakeshop sign up in a
couple of weeks.
The decision to buy
"tasty Nu came quickly
.for the Miatellos, Helen
said.
They had only been
thinking about it since
late March, but said it's
important to keep down-
town stores full.
She added they only
considered buying the
business because the
Iluron Apothecary, which
the Miatellos have owned
for 10 years, is next door.
. And while the Miatellos
are the new owners of
the business, with Helen
doing the bookkeeping,
they have a manager
who will oversee the day-
to-day operation of the
business.
Miatello added that
Exeter customers have
been loyal and the bake
shop will continue to
offer good service.
"Service is very impor-
tant to us," she said.
Helen and Ernie Miatello, owners of Huron Apothecary, stand in their new
business,Tasty Nu, which wilt soon be changing its name to Exeter's Homestyle
Bakeshop. Helen said the couple bought the bakery because they didn't want
to see the store sit empty.
