South Huron Youth For Christ celebrates 50 years of operation

BRUCEFIELD - The first
organizational meeting of
South Huron Youth for
Christ was held May 7,
1949 in the Clinton Town
Hall.
It was with great enthu-
siasm that area people
such as Rev. Medley. First
Baptist Church in
(;oderich, Viola Haines,
frank Collar, Muriel
Snider. (:lit1' Talbot, Vivian
MacLean (Westlake),
Elzer Mousseau met to
plan a rally on the first
Saturday night of the
month for young people.
The first rally was on
December 3, 1949 • at the
Clinton High School. Jack
Van Impe, an 18 year old
evangelist from Detroit,
Michigan was the guest
speaker. Van Impe is
_known today worldwide
for his television ministry
out of the United States.
Other special guests
over the years have
included David Maines,
100 Huntley Street; evan-
gelist Barry Moore;
Connie Scott, internation-
al contemporary singer;
TeewChallenge and many
others.
Joe Baker was a full
time youth worker for the
original Tri -county Youth
For Christ which included
Hanover, Clinton and
Exeter in the late 50s and
early 60s. Paul Sharrow
•worked in the high
schools for Youth For
Christ in 1979 and 1980.
When the rallies were
moved from Clinton to
Brucefield, the name was
changed to South Huron
y outh For Christ_
Quizzing has always
been a vital part of Youth
For Christ. The trophy
was donated by Dr. Bern
Corrin, physician from
Wingham. in 1960 and is
presently displayed in
Bethel Pentecostal
Assembly, Goderich, in
honour or last year's win-
ning team. ['cams have

was Canadian Evangelist
in 1956, Youth For Christ
International Evangelist
1957-58, Vice -President
of Western Canada Youth
For Christ 1959-60 and
finally President of
Canadian Youth For
Christ from 1961-67.
Aarum will be the spe-
cial guest speaker at the
50th Anniversary
Celebration May 1 at
p.m. at the Huror
Centennial Public School
