with rainbow trout for the 15th annual event
USBORNE TWP. —
Young and old alike can
enjoy a day of fishing at
the 15th Annual 'I'rout
Fishing Derby at Morri-
son Dam Conservation
Area Saturday.
Sponsored by the Exet-
er Lions Club and the
Aiisable Bayfield Con -
tion Foundation,
LAIL 'rby runs from 7
a.m. - 2 p.m.
Les Wernham of the Li-
ons Club said the sole
purpose of the event is
for children, families and
adults to have a fun day
of fishing at the con-
servation area and
stressed the event is not
a fund-raiser.
More than 50 local
businesses have donated
prizes and trophies will
also be awarded. Reg-
istration fees are $1 for
those aged 16 and un-
der. Those aged 17 and
older are $2.
Registrants also re-
quire fishing licenses as
determined by law. Peo-
ple under 18 years of
age or over 65 years old
do not need a fishing li-
cense.
The Lions Club will
have a food booth on site
for the derby.
()n Monday, Rainbow
Springs Trout Hatchery
stocked the reservoir
with more than 900 rain-
bow trout. Most are pan -
sized but more than 100
larger fish were also
added. The fish are paid
for by the Ausable Bay-
field Conservation Foun-
dation and the Exeter Li-
ons Club.

Public meetings next step
in amalgamation process

and have live votes each.
The committee has left
that flexible, though. in
case the county wants the
town to have a third rep-
resentative.
The new council 'for the
Town of South Huron will
decide how the third
county council represen-
-tative is chosen.
The draft proposal also
states that any increases
in taxes in_the new
municipality wilt he
phased in over three
years.
While the group eventu-
ally agreed to hold three
separate public meetings,
there was some discus-
sion of having one public
meeting for all residents
of the three municipali-
ties.
While there will be sep-
arate meetings, all resi-
dents are still welcome at
all meetings and all mem-
bers of the organization
committee will attend
each meeting, a fact that
raised some controversy
in the public gallery.
Stephen Township
Coun. Drew Robertson
said having all the com-
mittee members at each
meeting will be intimidat-
ing for the ratepayers
who are only familiar
with their own represen-
tatives.
Stephen Township
Coun. Anita Riddell
agreed, as did Exeter
Reeve Roy Triebner, who
said the issues in the rural
municipalities may be dif-
ferent from those in
Exeter.
The organization com-
mittee disagreed, though.
Usborne Deputy Reeve
Ken Oke said most
ratepayers will only go to
the meeting in their own

poorer nearshore water
quality.
"If the warm tempera-
ture trends continue, the
more shallow water will
warm up faster and
longer and this may pro-
mote increased bacterial
growth along the shore-
line", explained Donnelly.
On the positive side,
beaches will be much
wider and shoreline prop-
erty owners may experi-
ence less wave erosion,
than in recent years.
What will levels will be
like this summer? That
will depend on how much
precipitation the basin
receivesversus the
amount of evaporation
that takes place.
The shipping industry
will undoubtedly have
their fingers crossed for
more rain.

Stephen meeting for
example, .the Stephen
councillors will be at the
front of the room, while
the rest of the organiza-
tion committee will sit as
members of the public.
Committee coordinator
and Stephen administra-
tor Larry Brown will now
send the draft proposal to
the Ministry of Municipal
Affairs for comments and
then prepare a final amal-
gamation draft. It will
then be sent to the
Administration, Finance

committee of Huron
County council.
Following that, a transi-
tion board will be formed
to make the major amal-
gamation decisions such
as personnel and proper-
ty.
Lucan's Youth Uniting Communities group organized last Tuesday's Vigil For
Hope, which showed support for and paid tribute to victims of domestic vi-
oience. The evening included songs from Lucan singer songwriter Ali Mat-
thews, speeches from members of the Women's Rural Resource Centre in
Strathroy and a moment of silence. After the gathering in Market Street Park,
about 50 people, holding candles, participated in a silent march towards the
United Church. Pictured above left, Mary Pereira, an outreach councillor with
the Women's Rural Resource Centre spoke to the audience, as did Angye
McDonald, project coordinator for Youth Uniting Communities.
