The anthem by the choir was 'Make a Joyful Noise.' There was no service at St. Paul's, Kirkton on Sunday, April 11 because of the Deanery Celebration of Easter at St. James Anglican Church in Stratford. At the Granton United Church on Sunday, April 18, Lay Pastor Val Hodgins entitled the sermon 'In the Breaking of the Bread' based on Lessons from 1st Peter 1 and Luke 24. The Youth Group met at the church at 6:30 p.m. and visited Kingsway Lodge in St. Marys. At St. Paul's Anglican Church in Kirkton on Sunday, Rev. Susan Steers of Lucan took charge of the service in the absence of Rev. Glenda Meakin, whose brother recently passed away in Ottawa. Emma Blackler read the lessons and the sunday school children gave an Easter presentation under the direction of John and Kathy Urquhart. Many from the Granton area enjoyed the 7th annual Ladies 'Break Away' sponsored by Zion West U.C.W. at the Kirkton-Woodham Community Centre on April 10. Volunteers for a committee to organize celebrations for Biddulph's 150th birthday met on Monday, April 5 at the Municipal Office and got off to a good start. The April auction'Sponsored by the Lucan Heritage and the Biddulph 150th 1lebrations was held at the Lucan Community Centre L r . Saturday, April 10. A number from the Granton Community attended the pork barbecue at Wesley United Church on April 7. A number from the Granton area enjoyed the Lucan United Church annualbeef supper held at the Community Centre on Thursday evening, April 15. U.C.W. - Unit One met at the residence of Pastor Val Hodgins on Thursday; April 1 for lunch at noon served by the hostess and her sister Jean from Alberta. President Doreen McRobert opened the worship with a reading entitled 'Called' by Harvey Moore and encouraged the importance of helping people in the community. Plans were made for the Wednesday, May 12 meeting to be held at Extendicare in London with Edna Wallis who will be 90 years young. Also the regional rally is being held at Granton United Church on May 4. Audrey Westman read articles on the 'Winter Solstice' and 'Finding a Balance.' Madeline Hardie concluded the program with a triple word contest. Unit Two met on Tuesday evening, April 6 at the home of Cheryl Mills who opened the meeting with a reading. Business discussion included a barbecue lun- cheon after church on Mey 2 and a bazaar planning meeting on Wednesday, May 12. A Perennial Exchange was also planned for Saturday, May 22 and arrange- ments made for the next meeting on Monday, May 3. Refreshments were served by the hostess. The Granton U.C.W. quarterly meeting' was held at - the church on Tuesday evening, April 13, beginning with a social time and refreshments served by Unit 3. he worship service was led by. Margaret and April .al and Ruth Cook. he guest speaker was Cathy Symons of St. Marys who had spent two years as a teacher in Egypt. Cathy told • of her travels by means of a map and video, and showed items she had purchased. President Audrey Westman led the business when plans were made to hold the Regional Rally at Granton. on Tuesday, May 4. Other discussion included the beef supper in the park on Wednesday, Jung 16 and changes to the set-up at the annual bazaar in October. Pastor Val Hodgins also spoke about the pro6osed changes to the structure of the U.C.W. Granton 4H The Granton 4H club 'Stretching Dollar& achievement night was held at the home of Melissa Golan in Lucan. They met for supper and later enjoyed the challenging Farming Game. The parents joined ' fir +the awards program when Shannon O'Shea presented a 'Friend of 4H' certificate to Barry and Diane Gollon for hosting the occasion. Leader Margaret Bryan explained the, content of the course and Mary Mcllhargey did a presentation, on the difference between banking institutions. Club bars were presented tc the seven rhgmbers who+ completed the course. Special awards were presented to Melissa Gollon far six clubs and to Shannon O'Shea for 18 clubs. Jennifer Filson received the prize for the best book. Lisa Dokter had the most creative cover and Melissa Gollon had the, most cohiurfuhbook. Clandeboye W*l. r President Barbara Carter of Mooresville was the host-' ess for the Clandeboye Women's Iristitpte annual meet- ing on April 14. The, roll was .nswered with the (paying of fees and plans were made for the Desert Euchre which was, held on Aft r -i120. Members were +encotfraged`to attend the North West Mi+d&esex district anal meeting at the Bast Christian Reformed Church hall in Stra tiroy, May 11 at 6;30 p.m. Ruth Hill read a poem 'It's Spring' &oto Andy Dixon's book of poems. Evening unit of Exeter U.C.W. plan for smorgasbord EXETER - The evening unit of Exeter United church U.C.W. met April 12 in the chu}r�ch parlour. 'Norma Cockwill opened the meeting with the call to worship. Devotions were con- ducted by F.Isie Hermann, Leona E1libtt, + Barb Tiedenapl, Norma Cockwill " and Alice MacLean basrd on tie Parables of the Sewer and the Mustard Seed. Guest speaker, Belle Ratz told about her daughter and her struggle with fetal alcholic syn- drome. She was .thanked by Hermann and present- ed with a bouquet of spring flowers. Unit leaders, Shirley Dawe conducted they busi- 1 ness. Thirty-eight mem- bers answered the roll with "their favourite item -gar of spring." The April Event is in Mitchell April 19 and Westminister Weekend will be held June 4, 5 and 6. Please intact Audrey MacGregor if interested. Fee is$1115. Final plans ' were. made for the annual Smorgasbord May 6. A chili luncheon will be held after church, May 16. I; AIproceeds to go to the IM & S fund.
