Changes in courses during Secon
by Philip j. McMillan
This week at St. Anne's
a new version of the
VOICE, our school news-
paper, was published to
rave reviews for every-
thing from the poetry to
the recipes.
Congratulations to Sarah
Koopmans and all the stu-
dents who worked so
hard on this publication. I
can't forget Mr.
McCarroll, the Vice -
Principal, for his vision
and drive. His vision has
led the students to their
publishing work. The first
day the VOICE was on
sale it sold out and the
second day it was still
pretty hot, as students
were waiting to pick up
copies even before they
were available
This Friday we have our
COFFEE HOUSE.
Students and staff will
join their creative skills to
raise funds for the Arts
Alliance at St. Anne's.
The Alliance is a coordi-
nated effort of artists who
share creative skills. It is
always a great night so
bring your mug and be at
the school by 7:OOPM on
Friday the 23rd of April.
Come out for an evening
of poetry, music, drama,
dance and visual arts. I
recall last year the feeling
of great joy as 1 left the
school thinking back to
moments of creative
excellence. Admission is
$3.00 for students and
$5.00 for non -students.
Last week I commented
on Secondary Reform as it
relates to the concept of
Full Disclosure and the
Student Transcript in the
Ontario Student Record.
This week I will point out
the changes in course lev-
els for all Grade 9 stu-
dents in the school year
1999-2000. The new for-
mat has three distinct
tracts or streams. They
are the Open stream, the
Applied stream, and the
Academic stream. The
Open stream is for a vari-
ety of courses that are not
offered as Applied or
Academic courses, more
specifically, the arts and
physical education and
health. The Open course
expectations are suitable
for all students at a given
grade level. Applied
courses focus on the
essential concepts of the
subjects but develop stu-
dents' knowledge and
skills by emphasizing
practical, concrete appli-

FASHIONABLE RANCHER
A main hip roof with gable accents, vertical board and batten siding with an accent brick
veneer, and a covered verandah work together to create a contemporary exterior look very
fashionable in today's subdivisions.

ensuite. The secondary bedrooms are a good size, and share a three piece bath.
The kitchen boasts an efficient "U" shaped work area with a half wall open to the dining room.
The family room provides a spacious atmosphere for Informal gatherings.
An unfinished basement awaits your own creative touch.
