Grand Bend will support Parkhill arena project
GRAND BEND — Do-
ing an about turn,
Grand Bend Coun. Phil
Maguire made a motion
to support the capital
costs of replacing the
Parkhill arena boards.
When council first dis-
cussed the topic earlier
this year, Maguire said
village council
shouldn't be contrib-
uting to the project at
the time because it
would be asked to fi-
nancially support North
Lambton facilities.
At Monday night's
meeting, Maguire said
because of the speed
(or lack of) with which
the North Lambton re-
structuring plans . are
progressing, council
should donate "not less
than $1,000" to the
Parkhill project.
Mayor Cam Ivey said
about 10 children from
Grand Bend,including
his son, play hockey in
Parkhill and that he
would have to approach
Parkhill for 2001 Can-
ada Summer Games
funding.
The total project will
cost $80,000 and the
committee has already
raised $30,000.
Coun. Bob Mann said
player registration fees
cover the operating ex-
penses of the Parkhill
arena but the board re-
placement project is a
capital project.
"I'm not opposed to
helping out, just as I'm
not opposed to ap-
proaching them for
2001 funds," Mann

Coun. Shirley An-
draza also supported
the motion based on the
fact Grand Bend
doesn't have its own
arena and residents
rely on arenas in other
communities.
The exact amount of
the contribution will be
determined in final
budget deliberations. At
an earlier meeting,
council gave permission
to the Parkhill fund
raisers to solicit dona-
tions in the Grand Bend
community. 6
