Blue Water Rest Home residents enjoy quilt show
ZURICH - On Palm
Sunday afternoon at Blue
Water Rest Home, Leona
McBride entertained the
residents in the auditori-
um.
The residents met with
their St. Boniface Buddies
on Tuesday morning to
make Easter crafts. They
drew pictures on Easter
eggs, coloured and put
together Easter baskets,
and played Easter cross-
word puzzles and word
hunt games.
Wednesday afternoon
the residents gathered in
the auditorium to colour
Easter eggs with food
colouring, stenciled bun-
nies and happy faces or
varied colours. On Easter
Sunday morning the resi-
dents had the eggs in a
basket on their table as
decorations. House artists
were Margaret Hess,
Carman Lovie, Jean Burr,
Philippa Steckle, Vera
Haberer, Marguerite
Hedley, Marie Gingerich,
Clara Hamilton and
Dorothy Dietrich.
Thursday afternoon
Chapel Service was con-
ducted by Pastor John
Tremulak, Zion Lutheran
Church, Dashwood and
-Evangelist Arnold
Guide Challenge
The Girl Guide Provincial Challenge was held Sat-
urday at the Hensall United Church with girls
from Exeter, Hensall, Huron Park and Zurich par-
ticipating in games, crafts and singing. From left,

Grand Bend. Fr. Matthias

Church, led the Catholic
service.
Good Friday and the
Easter weekend saw
many family and friends
visiting their loved ones.
Some residents visited
their family for the Easter
meal and some residents
had their family members
join them for dinner at
the home.
The Zurich Mennonite
Church Choir sang Easter
hymns for the residents
during the breakfast hour
on Easter' morning. Some
residents attended the
Easter service at Zurich
Mennonite Church, and
others watched an Easter
service on T.V. Many resi-
dents enjoyed an after-
noon tea in the west wing
with the assistance of the
Adjuvant.
Greenhouse Easter lily
and hydrangeas, plus
flowers received from
family members decorate
the home. Kay Rydall of
Belmont, daughter of
Margaret Hess, gave the
residents a display of silk
tulips to boost their spring
feelings.
The B.W.R.H. Auxiliary
entertained the residents
on April 6 under the lead-
ership of Mary Lou Erb
and Pearl Ann Martin as
pianist. Brenda Melick
played a piano solo, a
variation of 3 Blind Mice,
Jim Ramer played guitar
and the group from
Zurich Mennonite Church
sang Easter songs.
April 7 Geri Fashions of
London visited the home
and the residents and
their families chose vari-
ous items on display for
their spring wardrobe.
The company had three
attendants to assist the
residents. The adjuvants
on duty, the Hobby Room
Convener and Auxiliary
volunteers assisted the
residents with their selec-
tions and fittings.
Resident Vivian Fremlin
assisted with the sewing
of names on the new
items before the articles
were placed in the resi-
dents' rooms.
April 8 the Zurich
Connection, Eleanor
Horst on piano, Rev. Art
Horst on violin and guitar,
Helen Otterbein on tam-
bourines and triangles,
Lloyd Otterbein on guitar
and dobra, provided
many familiar tunes.
Lloyd also sang solos for
his audience. Auxiliary
volunteers Della Gascho
and Donna Klopp helped
serve the evening lunch
and refreshments.
April 9 the residents
boarded the wheelchair
bus for a trip to South
Huron Recreation Centre,
Exeter to view the many
handmade quilts on dis-
play in preparation for
the International Plowing
Match to be held in Huron
County in September
1999. Residents Beatrice
Rader, Jean Burr, Vera
O'Brien, Esther Making,
Dorothy Dietrich, Ethel
Moore, Dorothy Farrell,
with the assistance of vol-
unteers, John .Campbell,
Liz Stephens, Molly
Gowdy, Jean Armstrong,
Vivian Fremlin and
Adjuvant Cathy Shantz
toured the facility.
Antiques, new pieced
quilts as part of the con-
test, older quilts from yes-
teryear, quilts from vari-
ous local organizations as
part of the centennials,
quilt stores and their dis-
play products, new
sewing machines, every-
thing took their interest.
The residents reminisced
of the many quilts they
too had made and
enjoyed the comfort of.
The residents took spe-
cial interest in a quilt
pieced and sewn by
Hobby Room Convener
. Ann McBride. McBride
entered an Around The
Twist quilt of three basic
materials in colours of
black floral, gold and
cream with a dark green
backing and received
third price for her categor
Many hours of hard
work paid off and the
quilt gave a three dimen-
sional look hung in the
hall lighting. Quilts were
entered from all across
Ontario and the talent
displayed was incredible.
Many local people,
Zurich, Hensall, Exeter,
Crediton, Centralia,
Grand Bend also had
entries and winnings.
April 11 the residents,
family and friends of
Herbert Schlundt gath-
ered in the auditorium
from 2 to 4 p.m. in cele-
bration of Schlundt's 90th
birthday.
Schlundt greeted every-
one dressed in a fine suit
and posed for many photo
sessions.
Many cards and well
wishes were received and
the guests enjoyed cake
and ice cream served by
Auxiliary volunteers
Lottie Grenier and Louise
Hayter.
The residents look for-
ward to a birthday party
with the Zurich
Mennonite Church on
April 13, an umbrella tea
April 14, organist Art
Coker April 16, the Merry
Makers April 19, the
Christian Reformed
Church Choir April 20, a
shopping trip to Goderich
and Exeter Community
Choir April 21.
Zurich Dining for Seniors plan for card party
ZURICH - A steering committee was formed at Zurich
Dining for Seniors on April 7.
0 Canada, the table grace was sung and the 50/50
winner was .Glena Horner. Following the dinner a
singsong of familiar songs were sung accompanied by
Glena Horner on the keyboard.
Marg thanked Horner and made an , announcement -
a card party will be held at the Township Hall on April'
26 at 7:30 p.m.
Progressive euchre was played. High score - Orland
Swartazentruber, 2nd high - Marie Cry. Lone hands -
Josephine Denomme.
