The Exeter Lions Club's Peter Raymond did just that at last week's Exeter council meeting. Raymond asked council to exempt the club from paying its taxes on the Exeter Youth Centre on John St. Council unanimous- ly granted the property tax exemption for the Youth Centre. He added the build- ing was funded entire- ly by donations and was built primarily for Exeter scouting groups. who use the facilities for free. In fact, the Youth Centre isn't used by the Lions at all — they use the old scout hall as their headquarters. The club will pay the property taxes on the old scout hall. The Youth Centre is rented out to various groups as office space, a dance studio and for receptions but the building ran a $6,294.37 deficit from July 1998 to March 1999, Raymond said. Town chief adminis- trative officer Rick Hundey said the other Exeter group who has asked and received a tax exemption is the Exeter Legion.
