Successful fashion show at St.Anne's school
By Philip J. McMillan
The Fashion Show was a great success. Hats off to
Ms. Leroux and the students and staff who worked
tirelessly to make it look so easy. 1 was pleased to see
what a hit the show was. The auditorium was lull
each night.
Mid -terms are rapidly approaching and for anygrade
nine student currently in a half course, like Tech, Arts,
Business or History, this is the East week before you
switch to your other option. The final day for the
semester two, part one courses, is Friday, April 16. Be
sure to find out where your new class will be held so as
to avoid . confusion Monday morning. The School
Newsletter went out Thursday to all families. So if
yours has yet to arrive mom or dad, ask the delivery
person, at the breakfast table, when it's coming.
This week I hope to begin discussion of the changes
in Secondary Education and how those changes will
affect your children in the future. I do so to clarify and
articulate these changes. It is not in my interest, or the
student's for that matter, to politicize issues .
The first issue I will discuss, is referred to as "Full
Disclosure". In the past, students who took a course -
and failed it, tried the course again and hopefully were
then successful. The Ontario Student Record (OSR)
has a page called a transcript showing what credits
have been gained. This is updated regularly, and at
present only shows the final passing grade and course
code. As of next year, the transcript will show the stu-
dent's achievements in grades 9 and 10 with percent-
ages shown for successfully completed credit courses.
POLICE BRIEFS

caused at Huron Centennial Public School near
Brucefield sometime between April 1-2.
Huron OPP Const. Don Shropshall said the principal
of the school discovered the damage on April 3 at
about 8:30 a.m. Someone removed the wooden mail-
box from the front of the building and threw it
through the teachers staff window into the room.
Anyone who knows of someone or heard of someone
doing school damage is asked to call the Huron OPP or
Crime Stoppers.

It will show a list of all grade 11 and 12, and Ontario
Academic Courses completed, or attempted by the stu-
dent, with the percentage grade earned and the credits
gained. - Students repeating a course, for which they
have already gained a credit, will earn only one credit
but both percentage grades achieved will be shown.
Withdrawal from any grade 11, or 12, or an OAC
course, fter a specified time, will be shown on the
transcrip Onecriticism of this new process was that
students o had extenuating circumstances that
caused a low level of achievement, such as illness,
would not be noted by Post -Secondary Admissions offi-
cers. The document clearly states that a principal may
be asked by . a parent, or adult student to identify by
means of a special indicator, those grade 11, 12 and
OAC marks that, due to extraordinary circumstances
are not a true reflection of the student's ability. A
principal may also initiate the indicator on his or her
own initiative. For more information, you may wish to
consult the Ministry of Education guide "Stepping Up".
I hope that this has clarified one of the many changes
which will begin next year .
