GRANTON - UCW Unit 3 met on Tuesday, March 23
at Elizabeth Garrett's home to-do some sewing on arti-
cles for the fall bazaar in October. A short business
meeting was held when further plans were made for
the Lenten Luncheon at the church today and for the
General UCW meeting on Tuesday, Aprll 13:
At the Granton United Church on Palm Sunday Lay
Pastor Val Hodgins entitled her message 'Humble
Majesty'. Members transferred from other churches to
Granton United were Penny McRobert, Jill Westman,
Charles and Cheryl Mills, Diane Blom, Betty Dann,
Marion Gatt, and Geraldine and Robert McAlorum.
After church the Sunday School visited a sugar bush.
On Easter Sunday, April 4 there will be a breakfast
at Granton United Church 8:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. The
Good Friday service is scheduled for r .April 2 at 7:30
p.m.
At St. Paul's Anglican Church in Kirkton on Palm
Sunday, Rev. Glenda Meakin led the Liturgy of the
Palms and celebrated the Holy Eucharist. The lessons
were read by Robert Parkinson and the minister who
reflected briefly on the transition from the triumphal
entry into Jerusalem to the crucifixion of Jesus which
followed.
The Lenten Reflections at St. Paul's, Kirkton on
Healing and Wholeness was well attended in spite of
the blustery weather.
The Good Friday service is scheduled for 10 a.m. at
St. Paul's when there will be a program for the chil
• dren. in the Parish Hall.

Horticultural Society creating butterfly garden

HENSALL - Spring has
finally arrived and the
Hensall and District
Horticultural Society has
many activities for area
gardeners. The District 8
Annual Meeting will be
held on April 24 in Ayton.
Please call Janeth at 262-
2715 to reserve your
place before April 15. The
cost is $12, and a speaker
will discuss Hard
Landscaping. The next
meeting of the Hensall
and District Horticultural
Society will take place at
Queensway on April 19 at
7:30 p.m. Betty Battye
will discuss creating a
butterfly garden. The
Society will be establish-
ing a memorial butterfly
garden in the big country
bed. The garden will
commemorate members
who have passed away.
Donations of butterfly -
attracting plants are wel-
come. The Ontario
Horticultural Society is
selling a tulip to celebrate
the new, millennium. The
tulip is dark pink.
Remember that the annu-
al plant auction will take
place on May 17. Plan to
attend.

Church on Sunday, Pirie
Mitchell was the minister.
Mark Garlough was the
organist. Wayne and
Jason Corbett were the
ushers. Hymn books were
dedicated in memory of
Murray Alvin Traquair
and Evelyn Marie

Rowcliffe in memory of
George Cowan, a number
of books in memory of
Ellen Mitchell donated by
her family.
The choir sang an
anthem "My Song is Love
Unknown". Mitchell's ser-
mon was entitled "The
Big Parade". Maundy
Thursday service will be
held on April 1 at 7:30
p.m. A Good Friday ser-
vice will begin at 10 a.m.
with guest soloist Mary

Easter Sunday Sunrise
Service will be held at 8
a:m. between the church
and manse, weather per-
mitting. Breakfast will be
held from 8:30 to 9:45
-a.m. All are welcome and
a free-will offering will be
accepted. The annual
Beef Supper will be held
on April 21 with sittings
at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

effective April 1, 1999. It
will' be open Wednesdays,
from 1 to 3 p.m.

current landfill pass,
available at the Municipal
Office.

On Wednesday, March 24 the Salvation Army hosted
' the Ecumenical Lental Service at St. James Church, St.
Marys at noon followed by lunch. It was a privilege to
see the remaining half of the *leo 'Peter and Paul.'
The annual Granton Masonic Oyster and Steak
Suppar held at the Kirkton-Woodham Community
Centrliton March 20 was well attended.
Elizabeth Parkinson and son Robert enjoyed a vaca-
tion during the March break visiting Dora Ringland in
Bellefonte, Pennsylvania.
Becky Kindree and Cathie Westman hosted a lun-
cheon and euchre at the Lions 1ia11 in the park pavilion
on March 19. Prizes for high score and lone hands
were .awarded to Jean Noon and Jill Westman and
everyone received a consolation prize.
