On March 31 the night sky will be lit by a Blue Moon7as the second full moon' in a month shines over head. March's Blue Moon is even more unusual because it is the second blue moon in 1999. It will be 16 years before two blue moons within 12 months again. The 'moon and stars on a summer evening are a •sparkling image on the Blyth Festival's 25th anniversary season poster and brochure, so, as the box office gets set to open April 19 (April 6 to members), the theatre is seeking Blue Moon shots for a lobby display. Send your colour or black and white pictures of this moon (or any full, half or crescent moon) to the .Blyth Festival, Box 10, Blyth Ontario, NOM 1H0 by May 5. She tells her story in Spot the Danger, a new half-hour video being released across Canada by The War Amps. Spot the Danger was produced by War Amps Chief Executive Officer Cliff Chadderton as part of the Association's Playsafe/Drivesafe Program. In a "pull no punches" style, Champs (members of,The War Amps Child Amputee - or .CHAMP - Program) from across Canada talk about their accidents and the conse- quences. - Bilyea is joined by 13 other Champs who also learned their safety lesson the hard way. They include: Joshua, who,Jost>part of his leg -at; he ageof six when ,he fell off a moving speedboat; Steve, who also lost his arm in an electrocution accident; Trevor, who lost his arm while trying to beat the train; Gerrit, Laura, Merrill and Jon Paul who all lost limbs in farm accidents; and other champs who had accidents with everyday household machinery like lawn mowers and meat grinders. A portion of the video is devoted to Meagan, who lost part of an arm at the age of three when the vehicle in which she was travelling was struck by a careless dri- ver. The memorable segment "Meagan's Song" tells her story and illustrates the importance of The War Amps Drivesafe message. He introduces the Champs and reminds children that, as a robot, he can put his arm back on, but they cannot, so they must Playsafe. Chadderton said the video was designed both to appeal to children and provide a lesson that will stay with them. "It uses the newest advances in computer animation to catch their eye, but just as compelling is the candid and positive way that these Champs tell their stories. We have always found The War Amps 'kids -to -kids' approach to be a unique and effective way to get the message across," he said. He added that the brief images of the resulting ampu- tations are equally important. "We felt it absolutely essential to show this in a tasteful way, not only to illustrate the consequences of unsafe play, but also to educate the public about amputation," he said, adding that there is a warning disclaimer at the beginning of the video. The -video, which was produced in-house and funded by corporate donations, has been distributed to com- munity channels across Canada and will also be avail- able to schools.
