Firefighters from
across county to assist
at plowing match
DASHWOOD — With
the International Plow-
ing Match (IPM) coming
up on Sept. 21-25, Hu-
ron County fire de-
partments are preparing
to provide service in
case of emergencies.
To inform county fire-
fighters of their duties at
the plowing match, the
Fluron County Mutual
Aid held their meeting
in Dashwood Monday
night to discuss the is-
sue.
According to plowing
match vice-president
Neil McGavin, fire-
fighters at .the 2,700
acre site in Dashwood
will be on hand to offer
fire protection, first aid
and security.
There will be seven
,.. firefighters on the plow-
ing match site from 8
a.m.-6 p.m. each day.
They will consist of
three from Dashwood;
who will operate the
pumper, tanker and per-
sonneltrucks and four
from another Fire-
fighting force.
The committee is con-
cerned about fires at the
trailer park, which has
1,200 sites.
As a result the fire sta-
tion at the IPM will be ,
located beside the park.
In addition, an am-
bulance will be on the
site at all times and
there will be telephones
on hydro poles so any-
one seeing an emer-
gency can call for help.
All firefighters will
have portable radios
and Dashwood fire chief
Jim Hoffman encour-
aged firefighters to visit
the IPM site before it of-
ficially
fficially opens to become
familiar with the area.
Weather • permitting,
the IPM committee pre-
dicted there • will be
25,000 people at the
match each day. Hoff-
man said the event will
be the biggest in the vil-
lage's history.
