SHDHS student council events are up and running
Get ready to jump, jive and wail, South Huron,
because student council events are up and run-
ning once again!
Based on the general responsibility South
Huron's students have shown, most events have
been rescheduled for twice the springtime fun.
In April, get ready to be amazed by a hypnotist,
have a blast at the election dance and even
participate in elections for the 1999-2000
student council.
In May and June, be prepared for Panther
Pride Day, Fun Night, Battle of the Bands,
Moga Madness, Airbands and the forever
awaited senior formal. So keep showing
that good stuff, South Huron, and we're in
store for an excellent end to the school
year.
A number zof practice teachers are help-
ing out in the school until April 9. These
teachers are stationed with Mr. McLeod,
Mr. McEwan and Mr. O'Rourke. Please
show these guests how great life at South Huron
is by welcoming them into our school.
South Huron's bands and choirs recently com-
peted in the Regional Music Festival in London
and all groups were.very successful. The Black
Jazz Band, Concert Choir and Senior Concert
band have all qualified and will be traveling to
the Nationals in Toronto from May 18 to 23.
Congratulations to all students involved in any of
these groups!
On Sun., March 28, the S.H.D.H.S. Music
Department is presenting their annual
Spring Concert. It begins at 2 p.m. in the
large gym. Donations will be accepted to
be used for music department expenses.
Everyone is welcome to hear these award
winning bands play on Sunday, so come
on out!
On Mon., March 29, a Mass Arts Day is
being held for students in the public feed-
er schools. Selected students in Grades 4
- 8 will be participating in drama, music,
and visual arts activities at South Huron.
This special day is being run in order to
help kids and teachers with the new arts curricu-
lum and to provide an adventure to familiarize
students with the exciting arts- based activities at

Interesting spring term begins
By Philip J. McMillan
Another March Break has come and gone and after a
week away most will return ready to take on the chal-
lenges of what may be a very interesting spring term .
This period of time will see the implementation the
Secondary School Reforms. The Ministry of Education
and Training has released the document, ONTARIO
SECONDARY SCHOOLS GRADES 9 to 12, PROGRAM
AND DIPLOMA REQUIREMENTS 1999.
I look forward to this period of change as we begin to
develop programs which focus on the various learning
styles of students rather than the designation of
Advanced, or General, or Basic.
This spring we will present our first Fashion Show at
St. Anne's on April 8th and 9th . Staff and students will
strut down the runway informal wear, cruise wear
and casual clothes, as funds are raised to defray costs
to our students for their graduation .
This week we will be preparing for the Easter Season
with Reconciliation for any staff or student who wishes
to participate. Reconciliation will take place on
Tuesday, March 23rd, from 9 until 11:30 am.
On Friday, students will be able to see a hypnotist in
an afternoon assembly .
