Cub pack races homemade cars at Blu;Water Rest Home ZURICH - The residents of Blue Water Rest Home enjoyed watching "Canada, The Undiscovered Land", one video in a series of videos loaned to the Home for viewing by Clarence Smillie. This particular movie was about the Canadian Rockies to the far north. The B.W.R.H. Auxiliary entertained the residents on Tuesday evening, March 2. Auxiliary com- mittee members Helen Otterbein, Mary Lou Denomme, Alida Rau and Marie Gelinas arranged the evening's activities. Michelle Denomme played the piano and Mary Lou Denomme read "Heavens' Grocery Store." Stephanie Rau as pianist played some songs and Rau read "Outside Plumbing." Ashley Rau as pianist played "Friends" and "Music Box Dancer." The World Day of Prayer held at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Zurich was attended by residents Margaret Hess, Jean Burr, Bernice Cann, Neil Mustard, Carman Lovie, Vera Haberer, Ethel Moore, Dorothy Dietrich, Dorothy Farrell and Dorothy Bapty. The theme was "Women of Venezuela" and the resi- dents were driven to the event by maintenance per- sonnel Ervin Steinmann with the home's wheel- chair bus. The March Birthday Party was hosted by Zion Lutheran Church, Dashwood. Birthday cele- brants for the month of March were Esther Makins, Mabel Riley, Maurice klenomme, Aciduria Ducharme and Rose Denomme who each received a gift frojn the Auxiliary. Jane Hayter played piano solos, Doug Stephens played the mouth organ and piano, Nancy Rader was pianist for the Ladies Guild who sang Irish songs for the residents and Barbara Raskie chaired the evening performance and closed with an Irish Prayer. Cake and ice cream was served by the hosts and Auxiliary to the. residents. Wednesday evening the Prepare for Senior Games Hensall/Zurich Cub Pack did a dry run for the area competition to be held on March 13 in Zurich' The 19 Zurich boys and 14 Hensall boys brought their homemade wooden cars and track run to the Home to show their expertise to the residents. They explained to the residents how they built their cars and then raced the cars one against the other. Derek Rath, John Kinsman, Les Desjardine, Sam Quick, Adriana DeBont, Francis Hartman and Rob Dionne assisted the boys with the enter- tainment and helped serve Tim -Bits and juice to the residents and youngsters. Gladys Van-Egmond and the Merry Makers visited the Home on March 12 to entertain with Irish music. Green top hats and green bow ties set the mood. VanEgmond on piano and accordion, Leona McBride on trumpet, Mozart Gelinas Sr. on guitar and Elgin Knott on violin played many Irish ballads. Many seniors danced to the music, while others preferred to watch and lis- ten. The Thursday evening program was set with a "Johnny Appleseed" theme. John Chapman, who was born on March 11 was well known for his many apple orchards in Ohio and Indiana. Mr. Chapman planted mint around his apple trees to control bugs and became very wealthy from his empire which started out with just one apple seed; hence the nick -name Johnny Appleseed. The residents put on their thinking caps and made as many words as they could think of out of the words "Apple Cider". The resi- dents were able to name just about every kind of apple in existence and dined on homemade apple juice and cookies for their evening treat. Francine Learn of Grand Bend donated two home- made afghan lap covers to the residents. Learn enjoys passing the time in her retirement years by cro- cheting articles and has offered her talents to the Hobby Room. Welcome to new resi- dent Leonard (Len) Joseph Onn. Twenty-three members enjoyed lunch at noon, served by the March committee with some extra help. Following the lunch Lloyd Otterbein treated the group to music. New members were welcomed. Plans are underway for the seniors games to be held in St. Marys this year. The 25th annual spring rally will be held in the Seaforth Legion on April 14, starting at 9:15 a.m., entry cost $5., lunch is provided. The pepper card games on Fridays at 1 p.m. in Hay Township hall, are a great success and fun.
