Times-Advocate, 1999-03-10, Page 21f Nednesdyr, Muth 10,. 1999 Exeter Timet -Advocate Farm news Take aim to avoid farm accidents Fai ming is a way of life for over 200,000 Canadian farm families from coast to coast. Too often, howev- er, it's also a way of injury and death — 697 Canadians died in farm - related accidents between 1990 and 1996. Most of these deaths could have been prevented. During National Farm Safety Week, March 10- 17, the Canadian Coalition for Agricultural Safety and Rural Health (CCASRH), the Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA) and Agriculture and AgriFood Canada, together with cor- porate partner John Deere Limited, are urging farm- ers and their families to think about how they can protect themselves from the hazards of living and working on a farm. "Machinery continues to be the leading cause of serious injuries and fatali- ties on the farm," says CFA President Jack Wilkinson. "Between 1990-1996, 70 per cent of all farm deaths in Canada resulted, from working with or around agricultur- al machinery. Hundreds more were injured, some seriously enough to cause lost work time or perma- nent disabilities." This year's theme "Safe Faanissiric, is.,, . Smart Fr -ming", brings attention L,the need for everyone involved in agriculture to promote safety awareness Denfield Livestock Sales The market at Denfield traded on a strong demand at prices 1.00- 2.00 cwt. higher on all classes of fed cattle, American orders were strong at 1.00 cwt. high- er.
