Women of Venezuela prepare World Day of Prayer service

The World Day of
Prayer service for this
area was held at Wesley
United church on Friday.
Mar 5. This year's service
was prepared by the
Christian women of
Venezuela who speak of
their country as one of
sharp contrasts. The
theme was 'God's Tender
Touch.' Leaders and
readers included Edith
Eaton, Audrey Westman,
Margaret Bryan, Pat
Harlton, Marlene French
and Pastor Val Hodgins.
Taking part in a dra-
matic scripture presenta-
tion with prayers and
intercessions were Cathie
Westman, Tara and Jill
Westman and Stephanie
Mills.
Former wardens and
representatives from the
parish of Kirkton,
Granton and Saintsbury
attended reception, fol-
lowing the services at
Christ Anglican Church in
London, held at the home
of Rev. Greg and Maureen
Smith on Sunday Feb. 28.
The occasion was in hon-
our of the 20th anniver-
sary of his ordination in
1979, and the Kirkton
parish was his first
incumbency in 1980.
Wishes for a speedy
recovery go to Grafton
Squire who had knee
surgery last week.

a noon luncheon at the
home of Amelia Jameson
on Thursday, Mar. 4.
Bible quiz
at YFC
Cathie Westman chaired
the meeting. Discussion
included the General
U.C.W. on April 13 and
the Lenten Luncheon on
March 31. Audrey
Westman chose a story
about Canarsie Rose for
her program and
Madeline Hardie conclud-
ed with one Of her puz-
zling contests.
At the Granton United
Church on March 7, Lay
Pastor Val Hodgins enti-
tled her message 'Cool,
Clear Water'.
At St. Paul's Anglican
Church, Kirkton on
Sunday Mar. 7 Rev.
Glenda Meakin's message
was about showing God's
love through compassion
and forgiveness towards
'others. Mary Blackler
read the lessons. Lenten
Reflections continue at St.
Paul's on March 8 at 12
noon.
Flowers were placed in
the church from the
funeral of Jim Riddell.
Sympathy of the commu-
nity is extended to the
family of Jim Riddell who
died suddenly on
Saturday, Feb. 27.
Granton 4H
Lisa Dokter was the sec-
retary and reporter for
the third 4-H club meet-
ing held at the home of
leader Mary McIlhargey
on Wednesday evening,
Mar. 3. ,
The roll call was
answered by naming a
major expense after mov-
ing away from home. The
book cover designs need-
ed more time to be com-
pleted.
Groups of two were
formed to consider rent-
ing an apartment to fit
one's budget.
Advertisements were
looked up in local papers
of places for rent and
questions to ask the own-
ers were discussed. Later
the group did an exercise
entitled `rating yourself as
a roommate.' After clos-
ing with the 4H motto,
snacks provided by the
members were enjoyed.
The second meeting of
the Financial Fitness 4-11
Project was • held at
Margaret Bryan's home
on. Wednesday, Feb 24. A
new name for the club,
"Stretching Dollars" was
chosen. The roll call as
answered by telling how
you spent your last ten
dollars.
Ideas for Achievement
night were discussed and
a net worth statement for
a fictional character was
completed. A record was
made of someone's
monthly income and
expenses was made, and
the net salary calculated
on a sample pay enve-
lope.
The youth leader led in
an activity dealing with
examining cheques for
mistakes and how to
properly write one. The
leader then gave out
sheets for each member
to match proper terms
and another about tiling
certain items such as
income tax.

Great Gulf".
"Out of Silence", a mime
group from Y.W.A.M.,
Cambridge, entertained
