Chiefs vying for season ending tourney
By Craig Bradford
The season ended for
Exeter with three can-
celled games,, two versus
Aylmer and one versus
Forest.
Chiefs manager Joh11
Rosenberg tried repeated-
ly to reschedule the
Aylmer games without
much co-operation from
the other team.
Exeter hopes to host the
season ending playoff
tournament, perhaps dur-
ing March Break.
Chiefs assistant coach
Mike Soldan said if the
tourney is awarded to
another centre, such as
Aylmer, Exeter may sit it
out.
Soldan said Rasenberg
has discussed a couple of
rule changes with
Tavistock officials to
avoid the problems he
had trying to reschedule
games at the end of the
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF season during or after the
OMHA playdowns.
One change would have
all teams post a $500 per-
formance bond. Any team
that doesn't show up for a
game would forfeit the
entire bond.
Soldan said the bond is
a fair idea since ice time
for a juvenile game costs
about $200, a referee
charges $60 and linesmen
$15 each.
Another idea Rasenberg
discussed with Tavistock
officials is shortening the
regular season so it ends
before the OMHA play -
downs. Soldan said player
interest in finishing the
regular season and the
league playoffs could be
heightened if the OMHAs
didn't wrap up before
then.
EXETER - The Exeter
Juvenile Chiefs hockey
team ended their regular
season with a 3-2 home
loss to Tavistock
Saturday.
Scott Rasenberg scored
Exeter's first goal of the
game mid -way through
the first period to give the
Chiefs a 1-0 lead. The
Chiefs added to the lead
when Lucas Forrest
scored from Ryal Carroll
mid -way through the sec-
ond period.
Tavistock quickly erased
the deficit and scored the
winning gowith 2:38
left in the game.
The Chiefs finished the
regular season with a 9-
9-3 record (wins, losses,
ties).

Exeter synchronized skaters get skunked, win
gold anyway
BRANTFORD - You may have called Exeter's novice synchronized skating
team stinky on Sunday, butthey certainly weren't skunked.
The Classics received first place in the silver final at the Sun Country
Synchronized Skating Championships in Brantford. The Classics were among a
field of 28 teams. A.
The day didn't start out as rosy as the Classics' skating dresses were sprayed
by a skunk before heading out from Exeter early in the morning.
Coach Kathy McLlwain added a white stripe down the back of her black coat
and added a small stuffed skunk to her hat for fun.
The club extends thanks to Leo Krahn for transporting the odourous outfits to
and from the competition, to Dave Atthill for opening the South Huron Rec
Centre early Sunday to obtain back-up dresses if they were needed and to
dressing room moms for putting up with the stink.
The Mini -Classics, Exeter's pre juvenile team (under 10), placed first in the
gold final at the Sun Country competition on Saturday. The Mini -Classics were
among a field of six teams.
The competition marks the Mini -Classics second meet in their inaugural
season.
The Classics, Mini -Classics and the Adult Classiques will compete in the final
competition of their season at the Western Ontario Section Synchronized
Skating Invitational in Port Stanley on March 20.
