Mayor tops
'98 pay list
Wednesday, February 24, 1999
EXETER — While the top
official on Exeter council
rang up the most in remu-
neration last year, 'one of
his councillors wasn't far
behind.
Mayor Ben Hoogenboom
received a total of
$10,317.54 in remunera-
tion including his $8,406
stipend.
Added to that was a $90
per diem (special all day or
half day meetings/confer-
ences), group insurance of
$1,652.92 and meals/trav-
el/lodgings of $168.62.
Coun. Joe Hogan attended
the most conferences and
therefore wound up second
on the remuneration list.
He, along with the rest of
the councillors. except for
the mayor, was paid, a
$5,398.67 stipend. Added to
that was a $900 per. diem,
$1,783.41 in group insur-
ance, $394.25 in confer-
ence registration and
$573.95 in
meals/travel/lodgings.
• Coun. Peter Armstrong
proved to be the most fru-
gal of councillors with, a
total remuneration of
$5,889.42.
• Total remuneration for
the rest of council: Reeve
Roy Triebner, $7,370.19;
Deputy Reeve Dave Urlin,
$6,236.36; Coun. George
Robertson, $6,791.12;
Coun. Robert Drummond,
$7,920.84.
The main difference
between Triebner's, Urlin's,
Robertson's and
Drummond's total remu-
neration was whether they
opted out of a number of
group insurance options.
Of note: Drummond did
not claim any
meal/travel/lodgings costs;
Hoogenboom, Triebner and
Urlin did not cost the town
anything in conference reg-
istration.
More Block
Parents needed
EXETER — Block Par-
ent co-ordinator Lois
Gobolt says Block Par-
ents are needed in Exet-
er.
Block Parent homes
have -three main purpos-
es. They are a safe ref-
uge for children, seniors
and teens when a need
arises for help if they
are bothered by strang-
.ers, or are sick, injured,
being bullied, Lost,
alarmed by animals or
caught in severe weath-
er conditions.
A Block Parent sign in
the window lets children
know that a safe strang-
er or Block Parent is
home to provide help.
All Block Parent appli-
cants are screened by
the police before a sign
is issued to them.
A recent survey of
Block Parents revealed
there have not been any
incidents in Exeter re-
cently but Godbolt said it
is still important to have
more Block Parents. to
ensure the community
safe.
If you are irit6rested in
becoming a Block Par-
ent, call Godbolt at 235-
0691.
