Core
French still
threatened
Dear Editor:
Core French will not be
an option for Grade 1 stu-
dents in Huron County
next year, unless parents
voice their support for it
this week!
Trustees of the Avon
Maitland board voted last
week to reconsider their
decision to gradually elim-
inate the French program
from grades one through
three, starting with the
next school year.
However, local trustee
Bob Allen said the board's
vote to reopen the issue
should not be considered
a sign of encouragement
that the decision will be
reversed. The revote on
eliminating primary
French will be held at the
regular board meeting
next week, on Tuesday,
Feb. 23 in Seaforth.
Parents of students at
Exeter Public School
clearly support core
French. A survey conduct-
ed by the School Council
indicated that 80 percent
of responding parents
• support the primary
French program.
Consequently, the School
Council indicated 'it would
e funds to cover,
—
e additional material
k...costs of providing primary
French. This cost would
be less than $500.
But parent support and
Parent Council support
are not enough. We need
the Board of Trustees to
approve the program. If
you want your children -
and other children - to
have access to primary
French, please call the
chairperson Wendy
Anderson at (519) 271-
7458; as well as Atje
Tuyten at (519) 273-0201,
and Ray Ford at (519)
273-1464. Thank you.
FRANCES ANDERSON,

Mischief
On February 5 at about 4:45 p.m. a '98
green Doge van was parked at Darling's
Grocery Store .on Main St. in Exeter.
Unknown persons spray painted the right
rear fender of the van with red spray paint
causing about $200 in damage.
Vehicles stolen
On January 30, 1999 two vehicles were
reported stolen from the Seaforth area. The
first vehicle was reported stolen from
Victoria St. in Egmondville where a '91 red
Ford Explorer was stolen during the late
morning hours. The vehicle was recovered a
short time later only a few blocks away. The
second vehicle was taken from the parking
lot of an apartment on Side St. in Seaforth.
Taken was a '95 purple Chev Cavalier some-
time around 4 a.m. This vehicle was recov-
ered on Conc. 1 of McKillop Twp. •
Break and Enter
Sometime between January 18 alio 25,
1999, someone forced open the rear door of
a residence at Conc. B, Goderich Twp. Once
inside the thieves stole an older style satellite
control, black in colour and $100 in loose
change. The culprits then damaged a pool
table by brettking off the coin mechanism
and set off a fire extinguisher on the kitchen
floor.
If you have in[orinatioq about these or
any other crimes call CRIMESTOPPERS
