HomeMy WebLinkAboutTimes-Advocate, 1999-02-17, Page 15First tapping of a sweet season BLYTH - Feb. 22 at 11:30 a.m. Blyth Festival favourite, actor/playwright Ted Johns will be the guest of honour of the SW Ontario Maple Syrup Producers Association, tap- ping the first tree to begin the annual maple syrup harvest. This early spring ceremony is the season's kick-off event hosted at McCully's Hill Farm, St. Marys, Ontario. Johns will appear as 'Aylmer', a local maple syrup producer waging war against modern tech- nology's influence on this historic annual event. Johns, who created this favourite character for the 1994 Blyth Festival play He Won't Come in from the Barn, has developed an especially humourous and pertinent skit for this tap- ping ceremony. His produc- tion The Great School Crisis of '99 will premier this season at the Blyth Festival. The McCully and Pullen families of McCully's Hill Farm will welcome guests as they sample maple syrup products and take sleigh rides to the sugar bush on the farm. As well as meeting local maple syrup producers, guests can enjoy a luncheon creat- , -ed by local chefs Chris and Mary Woolf featuring maple products. They each told one of their favourite stories. The winners' are as fol- loWs: first place, Kathleen Anderson, sec- ond place, Taryn Anstett and third place, Amy Eveland. Honourable Mentions were given to: Brittany Janke, Candice Janke and Mackenzie Holtzmann. Also on Tuesday, Feb.16 the Junior grades 4,5&6 and the Intermediate grades 7&8 are going to be saying their speeches in the gym. Student Council held a Valentine's Day Dance on February 12. Rod, White, and Pink Day was also held on February 12. Congratulations to Troy Elder who was the first in the school to reach the 10 feather plateau to earn his wings. l'ved services and technologies.
