Zurich figure skaters bring home medals from H.O.M.E. competition

ZURICH - The Optimist Club will be holding a
Valentine's Youth Dance on February 12 at the Zurich
Public School from 7 to 9:30 p.m. for those in grades 6,
7 and 8. Admission is $3 per person at the door.
Fourteen women of the St. Boniface C.W.L. and their
pastor Fr. Wronski, travelled to a Fun Night in St.
Marys on February 3. It began with a potluck supper
and entertainment for the evening was provided by The
Bells of St. Marys, and the Paul Brothers and Shirley.
Bro. Bob's Bake Sale will be held this weekend at St.
Boniface Church after Mass on Saturday night and
Sunday morning.
Brenda and Krista Schilbe spent the weekend in
Ottawa to attend a figure skating competition.
People's Choice
Co-ordinator Jane Musser stands with the Peo-
ple's Choice Winner at the Grand Bend Winter
Carnival's Junior Snow Sculpting competition last
Thursday. The sculpture, Titan -Ark, was designed
by Grade 7 and 8 students at Grand Bend Public
School. Students from Exeter, Mt. Carmel and Zu-
rich schools also participated.
Several members of the Zurich and Area Figure
Skating Club took part in the H.O.M.E. competition held
Friday, Saturday and Sunday in St. Thomas.
Congratulations go to all those who won medals.
Their next big event will be the Western Ontario
Section Interclub Skating Championships in Goderich
on March 7. They are also preparing for the carnival in
Zurich on March 28 at 2 p.m. The theme is "Dance,
Dance, Dance!"
The Sparks held their meeting at the Mennonite
church hall on February 9 for a Valentines party.
On February 16 they plan to go bowling at the Town
and Country Lanes from 6 to 7 p.m.
The shutin members of the Zurich United Church
were each treated to a vase of fresh carnations for
Valentine's Day.
Any groups or places of businesses wanting free place
mats for dinner meetings which advertise the plowing
match are to phone Diane Thiel at 236-4606.
A volleyball tournament with 20 teams competing ran
Friday evening and Saturday in Zurich at the
Community Centre and St. Boniface School gym.
Pledge sheets for Big Sisters/Big Brothers are avail-
able at the Town and Country Bowling Lanes for those
wanting to help raise money for the Association
through "Bowl for Millions". The celebrity bowling will
be held on March 7 from 1 to 4:30 p.m.
The Ladies Auxiliary held a meeting at the Rest Home
on February 2 with 33 members present. President
Gladys Gingerich chaired the business with Della
Gascho reading the minutes of the last meetinpg and
Margaret Gingerich giving the treasurer's report.
Quilt conveners Mary (Calvin) Gingerich and Grace
Martin thanked those who helped with the quilt. Only
the binding has to be finished yet. Grand Bend C.W.L.
will host the birthday party on February 18.
St. Peter's Lutheran Church will be holding their
annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper in their parish
hall on February 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. Free will dona-
tions will be collected.
The Bayfield Skating Club will be holding their carni-
val on March 7 at the Bayfield Arena at 2 p.m. with the
theme "A Walk Down Main Street." Admission will be
charged at the door.
Personals
Several relatives from the area attended an 80th
birthday party, open house on Sunday afternoon,
February 7 in honour of Mrs. Raybern Gelinas at the
home of daughter Evelyn and family in Byron.
Joe and Beth Boyle of Southcott Pines in Grand Bend
returned home from a six-week vacation in Australia.
Sympathy of the community goes to the relatives of
the late Leeland Surerus who passed away February 6.
Doreen Gardiner of the Maple Woods Apartments
spent a few days recently in Stratford visiting with
cousins Ruth and Ken Moorehead.
Happy birthday wishes go to Megan Gingerich who as
15 years old on February 7; and to Julie Becker who
was 40 on February 7.
Bernadette Denomme and Therese Stark spent the
weekend in Windsor and attended the Bridal Shower of
Chantel Denomme in LaSalle on Sunday.
Doug and Joanne Finlay and Marc and Shannon
Crane spent the weekend in Collingwood.

day party on February 17

p.m. They are sponsoring
Shirley Wright in the Big
Brothers and Big Sisters
Bowling for Dollars. Vera
Armstrong, Ruth Squires,
Mary ford were appointed
to come up with ideas for
"1999 Year of the Senior".
There is a bus going to
London Races March 6.

instrumental in starting
the Exeter Senior Citizens
Club on February 2, 1954.
Mrs. Steiner and Mrs.
Harry Beaver were
appointed to work with
the Recreational Council
and the Town of Exeter to
see if this club could be
formed. Town council
welcomed the idea and
assisted in helping to form
a club. The Rebekahs
were responsible for pro-
gram and lunch. This
carried on several years.
