'Canes make a splash at `B' champs
BRANTFORD - The
Huron Hurricanes
Aquatic Club had a busy
weekend in Brantford at
Western Region 'B'
champs.
'B' champs qualifying
times are the top 30 per
cent of times in the
province of Ontario.
It is a qualifying meet
which means you much
reach the qualifying times
to be allowed to attend.
Congratulations to those
Hurricanes who reached
that goal.
Those who qualified
were: Matt and Susan
Miner, Laurie and Kelly
Ann Vandendool, Scott
and Sarah McNicoll,
Allison Segeren, Katrina
Kaufmann, Sarah Datema
and Aaron Datars.
Matt Miner won silver in
the 50 m backstroke, and
silver in the 100 m back-
stroke, bronze in the 200
m backstroke, and bronze
in the 50 m breaststroke.
He placed sixth in the
50 m freestyle, sixth in
the 100 free and eighth in
the 200 free.
Scott McNicholl won
gold in the 200 m breast-
stroke and bronze in the
200 m breaststroke.
Aaron Datars placed
fourth' in the 1500 m
freestyle, fourth in the
200 breaststroke and
eighth in the 200
freestyle.
Sarah McNicholl placed
eighth in the 100 m but-
terfly, and eighth in the
50 m freestyle, filth in the
100 freestyle, and seventh
in the 400 m freestyle.
Allison Segeren placed
seventh in the 200 breast-
stroke.
Susan Miner won gold
in the 200 m breaststroke
and got a provincial quali-
fying time.

HENSALL - The
Hensall Sr. A Sherwoods
have tasted playoff suc-
cess in their first year
back m action.
Hensall knocked off
Monkton two games to
none on the weekend,
both in overtime.
Hensall first beat
Monkton 3-2 at home
Saturday. The winning
goal was scored by Chad
Ramer from Jeff Ansems
as 14:14 -
After playing a scoreless
first period, Monkton
drew first blood by scor-
ing in the second period.
Hensall didn't get on the
scoreboard till the third
period when Mark Cooper
scored from Chris Downie
and John. Bell at 19:36.
Ramer scored Hensall's
second goal at 7:34 of the
third from Ansems and
Cooper.
The Sherwoods swept
the best two -out -of -three.
series with a 4-3 win in
Monkton Sunday.
Cooper scored the win-
ning goal at 7:14 of OTf
from Jamie Lightfoot and
Sean McCann.
Hensall got off to a
quick start with Jason
Shelby scoring from
Ansems Jut& 25 socends
into the game.
Monkton had a 2-1 lead
going into the third, but
Hensall fought back with
goals by Todd McCann
from Brent Mills and Sean
McCann at 16:30 of the
third and Cooper from
Downie at 15:18.
Sherwoods coach Dale
Timmermans said the
officiating during
Sunday's game was some
of the worst he's seen in
years.
"It was one of those
classics where the referee
decides the game," he
said..."I think we played
almost the entire second
period shorthanded."
In fact, Hensall was
shorthanded by two play-
ers for about six mines
in the second.
Hensall moves on to.
face Goderich,
Timmermans' old team -
and the regular season's
top squad. Game one of
the best -four -out -of -seven:
series is in Goderich.
Friday night and game
two is at Hensall Arena

Bullshooters goaltender Eddie Matthews during a
break in the action Friday night. BX93's fun hockey
team was at Exeter's South Huron Rec Centre fog
fund-raising game versus some of the players from
the '96/97 all -Ontario champion Chiefs and current
Chiefs. Back from 'retirement' were Ryan Soldan,
,,,,, Ryan Beckett,Ted Hoffman and Armstrong. Former
Chief goalie Dennis Roth didn't play due to an injury.
Current Chiefs who played on the '96/97 squld who
are still with the team include Bryan Elleringt -.n and
Nathan Hern. All proceeds from the game go rov ,: ►ids
the Exeter ;entennials Soccer. Club's drive to erect
lights at the South Huron Rec Centre pitch for the
'99 soccer season.The Centennials need the lit pitch
to play in the First Division.The score of the game? It
was 13-5 (or something like that) for the
Bullshooters. Chiefs manager John Rasenberg is trying
to nail down the remaining league games around the
schedules of other teams who are still in OMHA
