Thamesford scored the winning goal

Hawks coach Scott Bogart felt his
team's play on the weekend was a major
improvement from last week's efforts
that also resulted in three losses.
"We have to continue to play like we
did on the weekend," Bogart said when
asked what the Hawks need to do to
make it to the playoffs. "We made our
own beds. We have no one to blame for
our predictament than ourselves."
Bogart said the team's focus should be•
winning the next game — not looking.
forward to the extra season.
"Once you get into the playoffs any-
thing can happen," he said. "We have to
get there first."
The recent losing streak
acid the team's inability to
string together consistant
good efforts hasn't been lost
on the team.
"There are, definitely
lessons to be learned by me
and the players," Bogart said.
Bogart added some veter-
ans have been putting out
good performances recently, exactly
what the coaching staff and teammates
have been expecting.
Captain Hodge, Ben • McCann,
Farquhar and Geoff Mauer have been
playing better to show the younger play-
ers a good example.
Exeter's record falls to 10-22-3-2
(wins, losses, ties, overtime losses) -and
25 points.

Lucan Jr. D Irish cling to first, one point.awy from clinching clivision

TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
LUCAN — A big 3-1
road win over the second
place Mitchell Hawks
Friday finds the Lucan Jr.
D Irish still sitting atop
the Morenz Division
standings.
Lucan jumped out to a
2-0 lead in the first with
goals by Adam Wagner
(assisted by Neil Judson)
and Kevin Dunbar (Justin
Mulligan, Mark Phillips)
at 6:45 and 5:10 respec-
tively.
Mitchell cut the lead to
one goal at 4:35 of the
first.
Dunbar notched his
team's. insurance goal at
18:49 of the second stan-
za from Phillips and
Mulligan and Lucan held
on for the rest of the
game for the win.
The game was a lively
one and got chippy in the
third period with two sep-
arate fights including a
fracas with only 49 sec-
onds left in the game
sending three players on
each team to the showers
a tad early.
Irish defenceman Mike
Davis will be out four or
five games after being
called for checking from
behind and instigator
fighting.
The Irish lost 3-1 at
home to Mount Brydges'
Feb. 3. Matt Dale scored
Lucan's lone goal from
Greg Henderson and
Derek Graansma at 6:16
of the, first period. Mount
Brydges scored one in the
first and` two in the sec-
ond to take the win.
Irish co -coach Bill
Bourne said the differ-
ence between the two
games came down to hav-
ing a plan: Lucan went
into the Mount Brydges
game without a plan and
players and the coaches
were thinking ahead
instead of concentrating
at the job at hand.
Bourne said he and co -
coach 'Jason Bukala
planned to shut down
Mitchell's offence in
Friday's game and gave
every player a fob
towards that end.
Lucan's record stands at
26-12-0-1 (wins, losses,
ties, overtime losses) and
53 points, three points
ahead of Mitchell.
Both teams have two
games left: Lucan hosts
Parkhill North Middlesex
tonight at 8:15 p.m. and
heads to Exeter Friday for
an 8:30 p.m. tilt.
Mitchell would ha've to
win both of their remain-
ing games (at home to .
Thamesford Friday, at
Mount Brydges Saturday)
and have Lucan lose both
of theirs to capture first
place.
Bourne said all his team
needs is a single point in
their last two games to
clinch.frst place. Mitchell
and Lucan would end up
with the same number of
points but Lucan would
win the tie-breaker by
winning the season series
4-1.
if Lucan hangs on to
first place, the team will
face either Ea... •.r or
Parkhill in the firstt uund
of the playoffs. Both.
Exeter and Parkhill are
tied at 25 points each
though Exeter has a game
in hand.
If .Mitchell does take
both of its games and
Lucan loses both of theirs,
to steal first place, Lucan.
would take on third place:
Seaforth in the first round
of the playoffs.
Bourne said besides the
Davis suspension, Chad
Greenlee is the only other
lineup scratch. Greenlee
is still out with a pulled:
chest muscle.
Screened. Lucan Jr. D Irish forward Greg Henderson, left, does his pesky best in
front of the Mount Brydges net during last week's game at Lucan Community
Memorial Centre. Lucan lost 3-1 but beat host Mitchell 3=1 on Friday.
