Advocate Community 1999 Food Grains project already started By Joan Belerling VARNA CORRESPONDENT VARNA - The Stan Lee Club met on Tuesday, Feb. 4 in the Complex. Bernice Reid and Anna Keys gave read- ings . It was decided to go to the Deli-licious Restaurant for lunch on March 4th at 1 p.m. After lunch, the group will go bowling. If you can go let Ivan McClymont know by Feb. 28. Information was received regarding the Grand Bend Carnival. Seniors Day is Thursday, Feb. 11 with an afternoon of fun and entertainment followed by a baked ham dinner at 5 p.m. for $10. Bob Stirling was instruct- ed to pay Bob Peck for the new coffee perk. A few games of Euchre were enjoyed. High win- ners were Bertha Taylor and Ross McDonald. Consolation prizes went to Eleanor Hendrick and Margaret McClymont. At 3:30 their guests Marg Robinson, Clarence Denomme . and Karen Lehnen . arrived. They spoke on the benefits of Tai Chi and gave some demonstrations. A lunch was served with a special valentine dessert p'wepaved i by Bernice Reid and Anna Keys. Church Service was in Varna on Sunday followed by a potluck lunch and the Annual Meeting. The Varna church has a piano to give away free to any Church member or family and any other person could give a donation. Beta Sigma- Phi EXETER - Alpha Tau Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi visited the residents of the Exeter Villa on January 19, Entertainment was pro- vided Diane Miller who played the guitar and Harriet Van de Burgt who sang. Refreshments were served by Verla Russell, Brenda Hennessey, Donna Webster and Elsie Witteveen. A business meeting was conducted by Verla Russell. February 2, Alpha Tau Chapter met at the home of Bev Delbridge with vice- president Verla Russell presiding over the busi- ness portion of the meet- ing. A report was given by Donna Webster concern- ing the Special Needs Girl tht'ough Families for Children sponsored by the chapter. A donation for prize money was made to the school section of the Kirkton Fall Fair. A successful Silent Auction was held. Lunch. was served by the hostess, assisted by -Donna Jones. The next meeting will be hold at Linda Deelstra's home on February 16. Removal of the piano out of the church basement would be in the deal. For more information contact Don Rathwell at 233- 9153. The Teens will meet Feb. 10 at the manse in Varna at 7:45. The Trends will meet in Brucefield Church on Feb. 12 for Wacky Olympics. The Varna Goshen, Stratford Centennial Food Grains Growing Project was a success again in 1998. 'A thank you goes out to all who contributed and assisted. Volunteers in each of the three churches have met and recommended continuing with a 1999 project. The wheat was already sown in the fall. Sunday, Feb. 14 Church will be in Varna with a Canadian Food Grains service. Guest speaker will be Ian McAllister, a mem- ber of the Food Grains Bank study tour two years ago. McAllister will show pictures of food aid pro- jects he saw in Africa from 10:10 to 10:25 dur- ing coffee hour and will be the speaker during ser- mon time. Canadian Food Grains Bank contributions will be received along with the regular offering on the February 14. Opportunities will be given to contribute time as well as machinery etc. The Stratford Centennial Congregation will also be invited to join in this spe- cial service. Sunday School teachers for Feb. 14 will be Lori Merrier and Linda Keys. Anyone wanting to teach please give Lori Merner a call at 482-7404. Volunteers are needed for one time or on a regular basis. Any youth or adults wanting to be Confirmed please contact Elly VanBergen. The Varna Annual Pancake Supper will be Tuesday, Feb. 16 from 4:30 - 7:30 in the Sunday School Room in the Varna Church.
