A com- mittee of Della Gashco,Carmel Sweeney, Lottie Grenier,_ Marie Denomme and Dorothy Breakey arranged for music by Max Ducharme and The Townliners consisting of Phyllis ' Deichert, George Mathonia and Max, Gascho read "Through the Years", Sweeney read "Her Valentine", and Grenier read. "Valentine . Poems:" Theresa Stark, Eleanor Riley, Mary Ellen Gingerich and Ellen Smithers helped serve the residents lunch. Select Shoes for Seniors from Haydon displayed the footwear for seniors in the auditorium on Wednesday afternoon. Dress shoes, running shoes and slippers covered the needs of most of the resi- dents. The residents were assisted by their family, the adjuvant and three sales personnel in choosing the right fit. Rev. Brian Williamson, Lake Huron Community Church, Grand Bend con- ducted Thursday afternoon Chapel Service with the assistance of his wife Marlene as organist. Fr. Matthias Wronski, St. Boniface Church,. Zurich celebrated Mass. In the evening the residents gathered in the auditorium for some of their own home cooking as they prepared their. evening treat of homemade pizza. Supplies of tomato sauce, ham, pepper- oni, cheese, green pepper and pizza- shell izzashell were prepared by the kitchen and the residents made their choice of selec- • tion for the topping. Friday afternoon Roberta Walker, Varna entertained the residents in the auditorium with the singing of Scottish and Irish songs and the playing of the violin. t _. Saturday evening members 'of Highbury Gospel Hall, London enter- tained the residents with gospel hymns. Volunteer Auxiliary members helped serve lunch to the residents and their guests. The residents look forward to a trip to Grand Bend on February 9 to view ice. sculptures, a potluck supper with the staff on February 10, Max Ducharme and The Townliners February 1.3, Valentines from the loved ones February 14, Heritage Day February 15, the Christian Reformed Choir February 16 and a birthday party with Immaculate Heart of Mary C.W.L., Grand Bend on February 18. Brunch to be held at Thames Road By Rhoda Rohde THAMES ROAD CORRESPONDENT THAMES ROAD - Rev. Marilyn Carter was in charge of the regular church service on Sunday at Elimville. After singing the Introit, Rev. Carter gave greet- ings, welcome and the announcements. Judith Parker led in the Dedication of the new hymn books "Voices United" that were given by Carman Herdman in memory of his brothers the late Amos and Herman Herdman. Rev. Carterr led in the "Affirmation of Faith". Rev. Carter lit the Christ Candle with the assis- tance of Robin McKnight. She told the youth a story "Thermostats and Thermometers." The choir sang "L Know Where I'm Going" accom- panied by the pianist Jean Hodgert. Rev. Carter led in the Responsive Psalm: 122 from Voices United. Bruce Delbridge read the scriptutetesson. The title of Rev. Carter's sermon was "In Praise of a Just Person". Marion Cann and Judith Parker received the offeringand were also the�greeters as well as Megan Parker, Zinis Richardstiii re . 'a Minute for Missions "`A call to service." Melonie Miller pushed the loaded cart forward for the food bank. . The flowers in the church were placed there in. memory of Virginia Warwick's father the late Cameron`. Honderich. Everyone said the Commissioning. and Benediction. Life and work of the congregation The Sunday School Youth Class is looking for anyone who subscribes to McLeans magazine to donate the Via Rail ticket savings voucher in the February 1 issue for $5.- $10. If anyone would be willing to donate it, the Youth Class would appre- ciate it. The Youth Class will be sending Valentine mes- sages before Church on Sunday February 14. If anyone wants to give a message to a loved one for a dollar, they will be delivered after church that day. Proceeds to go the burn unit in memory of Dennis Hutton. "Once in a Blue Moon" appreciation banquet for adults. Everyone wel- come,March 31 The Standing Committee meeting will be held on Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. followed by Council meeting at 8 p.m. at Thames Road. Feb. 14 the Sunday School invites the congre- gation to come celebrate Valentine's Day with them after the service. Feb. 17 the Sunday School teachers meeting is at 7:30 p.m. at Thames Road. Feb. 24 the Junior Youth Group at Thames Road from 6-8 p.m Pizza,' and bingo party. Please bring $5. and also note the change of date. The World Day of Prayer serviee will be held at Thames Road Church on March 5 at 2 p.m. There were 35 people in attendance for the annual meeting at Elimville Church on Sunday. Personals The Usborne Guild con- sisting of Jean Hodgert, Ken Duncan, Harry Jeffery, and Bill Rohde played at Exeter Villa on Thursday evening. Sympathy of the com- munity is extended to Bev Hutton, daughters Tammy and Tina, parents Sandford and Marlene Hutton in the passing of Dennis • Hutton on Thursday. Sympathy of the com- munity is extended to Paul and Virginia Warwick and Brett in the passing of Virginia's father in the late Carmeron Honderich. They attended his funeral on Friday at New Hamburg. Bret Warwick celebrat- ed his 8th birthday with friends Saturday. Robert and Kathy Bray entertained on Saturday evening in honour of their daughter Kristy's 15th birthday. Book exchange and puzzle offered to area seniors EXETER - January has been a busy month for Exeter Dining for Seniors and staff. January 5 John Morgan,the fire chief spoke on Fire Prevention. The group watched a video on fire safety rules. The Zurich Connection entertained on January 12 with a variety of songs and instrumental playing. Faye Skinner introduced Margaret Hayter as the new community support coordinator who will be working along side Skinner. With the weather condi- tions on January 19 less than desirable we decided to cancel the dining pro- gram and hand deliver meals. Thirty-one meals _ were delivered. Card bingo was played on January 26 with prizes. going to the following:_ Helen Broderick, Marg McBride, Joe Wilds and Menota Smith. Birthdays were celebrated for Charles Mortley, Ruth Arthur and Menota Smith. Draw prizes for the month went to: Marshall Dearing, Isabel Kerslake, Phyllis Case, Gertie Verkerk and Humphrey Arthur. A special card and con- gratulations went to Bernice and Hubert Cooper celebrating their 65th wedding anniver- sary. A birthday card was sent to Erma Dobrindt. Erma and Gerry have gone to London for the winter months. A get well card was sent to Stu Bible study group organized in Grand Bend McLellan. Keyboard players for the month of January were: Maxine Sereda, Josie Ryckman and Jean Hodgert. The foot care program started on February 2. Anyone interested in booking an appointment for March 2 give Charolette a call at the - office (235-0258). A book exchange is set up in the north hall. Anyone interested in exchanging books or read- ing, drop by any time 8-5 p.m., Monday to friday. A puzzle mat was pur- chased and is set up with a lovely winter scene puz- zle. Any individual inter- ested in helping to com- plete this scene stop on by. GRAND BEND - The theme of the worship of January 31 at Grand Bend United Church was 'Wisdom of God' with Rev. R. Putman in charge. Scriptures were read by Marilyn Beattie. The musical presentation by the choir was "Blest are They". Beginnlhg February 5• a group will meet in the church basement of Grand Bend United Church for Bible Study beginning at 10 a.m. The United Church Women of Grand Bend are running a booth sell- ing soup, sandwiches and pies on February 13 at 11:30 a.m. The cost is $5 for 13 and over, and $3 for children.
