EXETER — The man-
agement at Sound Advice
disagrees with Exeter
council's opinion of the
sound system they
installed last summer.
Council says the equip-
ment's sound quality is
poor. Sound Advice
General Manager Rick
McGee told the T -A.
there's nothing wrong
with the equipment — the
operators and users (staff
and council) are to blame.
McGee also says he
doesn't like the idea of
taking back the town's
used equipment but he
will consider doing so.

EXETER — Big or small...that's the question when it
comes to how police services will be provided by the
OPP in Exeter.
While Huron County council has tabled a bylaw on a
county -wide OPP quote till next month's meeting,
Exeter's committee of the whole discussed the finer
points of such a contract at Monday's meeting.
Reeve Roy Triebner is in favour of Exeter going with
a county-wide"quote since it will save the town $37,000
compared to an Exeter alone quote. He also feels a
c:)unty-wide police services board will provide Exeter
with adequate representation since it would be in its
appointed members' best interests to work closely with
its member municipalities.
Deputy Reeve Dave Urlin "totally disagrees" with
Triebner. He feels each municipality should pay for
policing based on tax assessment rather on police calls
for service (called occurrences). He said a occurrence -
based quote has urban centres like Exeter subsidizing
rural municipalities when it comes to police service.
"These guys (the OPP) are great salesmen," Urlin
said. "They gold us a few years ago for a $100,000
increase."
Triebner added the Exeter Police Services Board is
against a county -wide quote and wants to retain the
authority it has over the local service. He said the
board is trying to find if similar savings to the county-
wide quote could be found in an Exeter -only quote.
Triebner's motion for the issue to be tabled to
Monday's council meeting for a vote was passed.
Exeter's draft merger
report ready next week
EXETER — Get ready,
here it comes.
Exeter's committee of
the whole was given a
sneak preview of chief
administrator Rick
Hundey's draft amalga-
mation report at
Monday's meeting. That
merger would be
between Exeter and the
townships of Stephen and
Usborne.
Hundey said the report
addresses four key ques-
tionst the savings Exeter
could realize through
amalgamation (one num-
ber Hundey mentioned
We IF Our customers
was $300,000), the bene-
fits to the local govern-
ment, tax shift questions
and what would happen
if provincial/federal
grants dried up due to
the merger.
The last question was a
bone of contentionfor
some committee mem-
bers.
Reeve Roy Triebner
said if Stephen loses a
$850,000 grant because
of amalgamation, its tax-
payers should shoulder
the entire burden.
