There will be a bake sale at St. Boniface Parish following the weekend Masses on February 13 at 8 p.m. and on Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. All the proceeds will be sent to• Bro. Bobs Mittleholtz in India. • Students of Zurich Public School held a farewell party/assembly in the gym on Friday afternoon in honour of teacher Larry Weido, who has retired after 31 years. A program was presented and a spaceship pinata was made containing memories of past years. The students welcome their new grade 5/6 teacher Jeremy Brock. The early bird winners of the 'Beautify Your Home Contest' was won by Chuck and Tanya Erb of Zurich. The next dead- line is set for April 30. Phone Marlene Munn at 263-5096 for more infor- mation. A good time was.had by.., those attending the K. of C. card party last Tuesday in the parish hall. There were 11 tables in play. The next card party will be on February 23 at 8 p.m. The cost is $2. The South Huron Youth for Christ group will be having a family skating party at the Zurich Arena on February 6 at 8 p.m.The cost is $10 per family or $3 per person. The Winter Carnival Parade in Grand Bend is on February 13 beginning at 11:30 a.m. A` fashion show is planned at the Legion on February 5 at 8 p.m. The Zurich Agricultural Board met at the Town Geiger, will. be working with secretary treasurer Margaret Deichert. A letter was read from the Big Sisters/Big Brothers asking if the Fair Board would sponsor someone to Bowl for Millions. Carmel Sweeney will present the group and is accepting.dona- tions for a pledge sheet. The O.A.A.S. Convention will be held in Toronto at =the Royal York Hotel from February 16 to 18. The theme for the next Zurich . Fair was chosen - "Plowing Toward The Millennium". It will run from July 23 to 25. The next meeting is on March 29 at 8 p.m. The students of both the Catholic and Public schools in town are taking turns skating at the Zurich Arena. Children are also busy preparing for their speeches. The winners will be going o`n to say their speeches at the Legion in Hensall on February 16 at 7 p.m. Parents of students at St. Boniface School are reminded to attend the council meeting on February 10 in the gym at 7:30 p.m. Both schools will be cel- ebrating Valentine's .Day on February 14. The winners at the Golden Agers euchre party on January 25 were: Ladies high, Gwen McKellar; Second high score was a tie between Bernadette Denomme and Cecilia Farwell. High score for men was won by Ron Keller; Second high was a tie between Elroy Desjardine and Elmer Hayter. The next card party will be * February 22. Personals A surprise 65th birthday party was held in honour of Donna Klopp on Saturday at the home of son and daughter-in-law Paul and Heather Klopp, RR #2 Zurich. Ron Griedanus played the piano for a sing - along. Klopp's actual birthday was January 27. On Sunday the . family of Herb and Donna Klopp enjoyed brunch at Erb's Country Kitchen.> A surprise birthday party was held for Martha Overholt at the Town Hall on Saturday. The game of 'Pepper' has been hosted by mem- bers of Zurich Golden Agers at the Hay Township Hall. Attendance over a three week period has risen from 15 to 21 a total of 31 different players. Each week has seen improv- ment in scoring and. changing of partners. On January 28 the top three scores with four games played were: Jossie Denomme with four wins 167; Millie Webber with three wins 143; and Jack Baker with three wins 136. Grant MacGregor played a big pepper for a score of 18 for his team. Games begin at 1 p.m. on Friday with coffee and cookies after game three and a money draw after game four. Games morning for Blue Water residents- and their buddies ZURICH - On Monday afternoon at Blue Water Rest Home, the residents watched "The Hunters and The Hunted," a sec- ond part video about ani- mals,i -loaned for viewing by Clarence Smillie, a ten - .ant of B.W.R.H. Apartments. On February 1 the residents watched "Fourth Wish." On Tuesday morning the Grade Five Buddy class of St. Boniface School, under the leadership of Cathy Rau, made their monthly visit to the Home. The stu- dents brought games they received for Christmas to show their resident Buddy and to play. The students sang action songs. In the afternoon the res- idents gathered in the auditorium to play board games. A Winter Carnival Wednesday afternoon tea was a heart warmer for the residents of the home. The auditorium was deco- rated with winter scenes and winter sport pictures and items, old fashioned sleighs, toboggans, G.T. riders, snowmobile suits, helmets, etc. The resi- dents tried on the hel- mets, and talked about their winters as young- sters. Some residents had hot Chocolate and Marsh- mallows for their after- noon refreshment. On Thursday afternoon the chapel service was conducted by Rev. Marilyn Townsend -Smith, St. Andrew's United Church, Bayfield. Fr. Matthias Wronski, St. Boniface Church celebrat- ed Mass. Thursday evening the Zurich Connection enter- tained the residents in the auditorium with Eleanor Horst as organist, Art Horst on violin and guitar, Helen Otterbein on tam- bourine, and Lloyd Otterbein on guitar and dobra. Hobby room convenor Ann McBride called the magic numbers for the game of bingo on Friday afternoon.
