will speak on Native

ZURICH — For 31 years, Larry Weido

has been driving from bis home near
V Dashwood to Zurich Public School.
On Friday morning, he made his final
trek as teaphpr with thea Avon"
Maitland Uistr nt chool Board as he
reached the board's 85 factor (when a
teacher's age and years of service add
up to 85), allowing him to retire.
The school was buzzing Friday as stu-
dents, former teachers and staff were
1 wishing Weido well:
His retirement plans came as a shock
to many but Weido said_ he only found
out about reaching the 85 factor at the
beginning of the year::: Weido took stock
and decided now was'the time to. retire
"It's been a wonderful, rewarding
career," Weido said, adding the years
lbave flown by.
He had high praise for students who
',-.have passed through his cloom and
said st�ts succeed whe y believe
they' arfdo well. .
Weido has a long list of hobbies to pur-
sue including painting, cruising, fishing,
et skiing ;and snowmobiling. He'd also
like to .help the school with its environ-
mental activities and assist teachers
when they attend the Ausable Bayfield
Conservation Authority's Sylvan
Conservation Program..
"The kids keep you young," he said.
Weido is also pondering some business
ventures including Internet web page
Jeremy Brock from Exeter took over
the reigns from Weido on Monday morn-
ing, teaching Gr. 5/6 as well as science
and art for other grades.

seniors enjoyed dinner
with the new co-ordina-
tor, Margaret Hayter at
the arena on January 20.

were sung and the 50/50
draw was won by Rose
Regier.
The entertainment was
by Carol Gascho, Mildred
Gingerich• and Kay Wise
from Hensall Queensway.
Gascho conducted a short
contest. Gingerich and
Gascho sang a duet "April
Showers" and Wise read
a valentine story and a
poem. Gascho read sev-
eral jokes and led in a
sing -song of well known
songs, ending with "Till
We Meet Again".
Hayter thanked the
Queensway group for
providing the program.
Senior Diners also met.
on January 27' with 46
people present.
Harry McAdams won
the 50/50 draw.
Hayter asked that any-
one with a January birth-
day to come forward and
"Happy Birthday" was.
sung for Rita Snyder and
Orland Swartzentruber.
