EXETER im 1 Wednesday, January 20,1999 community A veru successfui year for Crediton United Church CREDITON - Reports presented at Monday's annual congregational meeting of Zion United Church in Crediton indi- cated a very successful year in 1998, not only financially, but in the number of members and adherents in participa- tion. The youth group under the direction of Cathy and Gary Skinner was very active. The young people donated $391.58 to the Huron Christmas Bureau and in addition collected food and held a 24 hour famine and toonie hinch which realized net pro- ceeds of $463.33. They also contributed $276 to the church sanctuary access fund. On behalf of the trustees, Larry Ratz reported that much of the tower repairs had been completed at a cost of $35,000 with the balance of roof work to be fin- ished in the spring. Three very successful fundraising projects raised a considerable Benefits of vocal aerobics SEAFORTH — Harmony Inc.'s Seaforth Harmony Hi-Lites chorus has set Tues., Jan. 19 at 7:45 p.m. for ' the start of a four -session series called Vocal Aerobics to be held at Seaforth Public School, 144 Market St. in Seaforth. The workshops, which are free of charge, will run for an hour and will include mild physical exercises geared to increasing breath control, along with vocal work-outs and learning a new song. According to Gail Moffett, Seaforth Harmony Hi- Lites president, the Vocal Aerobics program offers excellent health benefits. "Learning to sing properly is 'heart -smart'" she says. "It stimulates adrenaline production, can be used as a mild aerobic exercise, develops good pos- ture, offers stress relief and can be a productive leisure activity. It's healthy and ft's fun!" The 25 -member Harmony Hi-Lites is a chapter of Harmony, Inc., an international organization of women barbershop singers and has been entertain- ing in the area for 15 years. Sakand collection on display at Blue Water ZURICH - Members of Calvary United Church, Dashwood, hosted the January birthday party at Blue Water Rest Home on January 12. Jane Newman was M.C. with Idella Gabel as pianist. Newman and Elizabeth Hendrick acted out a skit entitled `The Lord's Prayer'. Aaron and Allison Neeb played several piano selections. Newman read poems and a choir of Maxine Gaiser, Hendrick, Bill and Joan Hoffman, Stan Haist, Marion Taylor and Harry Hoffman sang for the resi- dents. Birthday celebrants Janet IQeeger, Harry Maas and Frieda Moore received gifts from the Auxiliary. In the afternoon, the residents- played shuffleboard, crokinole and euchre. Wednesday afternoon the resi- dents viewed a display of 100 salt and pepper shakers of staff member R.Fi. Bonnie Keller. Thursday afternoon Chapel Service was conducted by Pastor John Tremulak, Zion Lutheran Church, Dashwood. Fr. Matthias Wronski, St. Boniface Church, Zurich celebrated Mass. In the evening, the residents listened to records by Graham Townsend, Laurene Welk, Guy Lombardo, Myron Floren, and sacred music by Henry and Hazel Slaughter. On Friday afternoon a mitt and glove show was held in the auditorium.
