raphy studies.
On Friday morning, the
class had several ques-
tions for Seaton about his
involvement and about
Davidson himself.
Seaton got involved by
answering an ad in the
newspaper in December
'97 that asked for volun-
teers to help with the pro-
ject. He said one main
volunteer joins the troop
each week to walk with
Davidson. The volunteer
also rolls the coins raised
each day and phones the
London Free Press with
the day's details.
Seaton works for
Wharncliffe Chrysler in
London which donated
two vans for the journey
and Seaton's job was to
drive one of the vans to
Newfoundland. He stayed
to walk with Davidson for
the first week and one-
half.
Seaton told the class he
witnessed the campaign's
first donation which came
from a woman just after
Davidson dipped his shoe
in the ocean. .
Seaton rejoined
Davidson in Alberta in
Nov. Although Seaton
picked up his air fare,
meals and accommoda-
tion were provided.
Harry Norris, Blythe
Lannin and John Scott
from the Mitchell area
joined the group while
Seaton was there.
Davidson walked 33
kilometres a day the
distance from liensall to
Lucan - resting one day
every two weeks and has
worn out six pairs of
shoes.
Service clubs or families
would host dinners for
the entourage which con-
sisted of five people:
Davidson, CFPL's Bevin
Palmateer who looked
after media relations, a
road manager/physiother-
apist, a volunteer such as
Seaton and a driver/cook.
Seaton said only the
office manager in London
and the road manager
were paid.• Davidson is
scheduled to finish his
journey across Canada
today.
"It was a very good
adventure and a very
good cause," Seaton said.
