Lucan also blanked Stephen 7-0 (goals by Jacob Jeffrey -3, Galbraith-2,White and Lee, assists by Ben Jeffrey -3, Mueller -2, Jacob Jeffrey -2 and Taylor) and beat Belmont 5- I (goals by Jacob Jeffrey -3), Galbraith,Tayior and assists by Taylor -2, Lee, Mueller and Jacob Jeffrey). (photo/contributed) 13 Locals shine at Shamrock all-starg ames By Craig Bradford TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF ILDERTON — They may not have scored any goals, but Times -Advocate area players left a positive impression at the '99 Shamrock Hockey League Bantam and Midget All-Star Games last week at Ilderton Arena. Local representatives on the North teams included, bantams: Stephen Township's Chris Desjardine, Cal deLange (replacing injured Henny Pfaff), Brayden Lord, coach Gerry deLange, assistant coach Dick Lord (replacing Brad Bowers) and trainer Glen Rollings; Lucan's Craig VanKasteren, Dan Pletch (replacing injured Darrell Parsons), Mike Pletch and Jason Smith; Midgets: Lucan's Mike Harding, Brandon DeBlock, Jonathon Smith, coach Bruce Cornish (coach Andy Ross and trainer Dave Smith absent due to death in.family); Stephen's J.R. Davies and. Jeremy VanBergen; Exeter's Brendon Martin and Jared Bourne. Stephen's bantam coaches and Lucan's midget coaches were chosen because their teams sit atop the Shamrock standings. In the games, the South teams both barely edged the North in shootouts after tying in regulation. The South won the bantam game 5- 4 and the midget game 6-5. Jason Smith got an assist and was named the bantam game MVP, run- ner-up; Desjardine was named .the MVP goalie.. The bantam MVP award went to Dorchester's Ryan Grayson who scored three goals for the South including the shootout winner. Martin, Jonathon Smith and VanBergen notched assists in the midget game; Harding was named the MVP goalie. Mount Brydges Bill Piskorowski was named the game MVP with two goals and an assist including the shootout winning goal. Ilderton's Mark Hudson was named the MVP runner-up. Ilderton Minor Hockey past presi- dent and all-star games convener Rob Andrews said the bantam game was a fast affair while the midget tilt was a closer checking one. There was only one penalty called in the two games. "I was really proud of the kids and the way they played," Andrews said. Cornish agreed. "As far as I'm concerned, they all won," he said. "They played some great hockey." Andrews said the games were scout- ed by the OHL's London Knights and Oshawa Generals, the London Jr. B Nationals and several Jr. D teams including Exeter, Lucan, Port Stanley, Mount Brydges, Thamesford and Parkhill North Middlesex. Over 300 family, friends and fans took the action in, Andrews added.. Shamrock League president Rick Hume of St. Thomas and OMHA rep Dick Bennett were on hand for the ceremonial puck dropping. Added attractions included a perfor- mance by the Ilderton Winter Club Novice Precision Skating team and the Medway High School Choir's rendition of '0 Canada'. Hawks come upwith two onegoal wins The Exeter Jr. D Hawks hockey team got a big boost on the weekend with two big one goal road wins. Exeter slipped by Belmont 3-2 Sunday. All of Exeter's goals were scored on the powerplay that was three for five on the night. Geoff Maver scored from John Miller at 15:35 of the first period to give Exeter the 1-0 lead. Jarrett Jeffrey gave Exeter the 2-1 lead by scoring at 13:32 of the third from Eric Abayof and Jeff Glavin. Belmont tied the game again just over a minute later. Abayof scored the win- ning goal at 3:49 from Jeffrey and Bill Hodge.
