Weather conditions affect Centralia activities

regular euchre games
where cancelled due to
weather conditions.
The UCW held the first
meeting of the new year
at Centralia United
Church on January 7.
Lois Wilson opened th

and the hymn "Isn't

Wonderful.". The scrip-
ture was read.
Phyllis Tomes gave a
reading "Looking for the
Messiah".
Guests speaker at the
meeting was Minister
Heather Scott. For the
Cash for t
topic, Gossip, everyone
wrote what they had
previously said that had
been hurtful. The notes
were collected and
burned.
Communion was also
held.
Kav Tripp, Aldene
Skinner and Carol
Somerville served every-
one lunch.

The Lucan Bank of Montreal branch donated $800 towards the purchase of a
new time clock for the Luean Community Memorial Centre. From left: Bank

Karen VanPraet. The bank branch raised the money through its People Fund
program. Dykeman said $5,700 of the $8,200 total cost of the time clock has
been raised so far.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD.) is a type of
depression that results from the shorter days oft -

Some symptoms of AD. includeextreme f ,re and lade of
energy, increased need for sleep or sleeping much more than
usual. Sufferers also experience a craving for carbohydrates and
increased appetite which can result in weight gain.
The causes of S.A.D. are elusive. Some theories implicate a
change in levels of certain brain chemicals Ike serotonin and
dopamine as the cause. Another theory cites the cause might be
that the retina of the eye becomes less sensitive to light.
One of the treatments that seems to work is light exposure.
Sifting under a high-irtensity light for as ale as 30 minutes per
day is enough to reduce the symptoms of SAD. There are spe-
