McMillan CLINTON - Parents should have received the January newsletter by now. Please note the cal= endar on the final page. The month ends with exams which begin on Wednesday, January 27th. The exam schedule will be published and sent home early this week. Please take time to check the schedule to insure that your daughter or son does not have an appoint- ment that is in con- flict with the exam schedule. Students who note any conflict in their schedule should inform the office. Students with conflicts are students who take two courses which have the exam at the same time. This is rare, but does need to be dealt with. The weeks before exams should be a time of serious review on the part of the student. Parents can help by encouraging the student to study on a regular basis and to seek any extra help possible from their teachers or a student peer tutor. The student needs to prepare a study plan and perhaps, if this is their first exam, they should seek help from their teachers about good study habits. Students need to be real- istic in their expectations and not study for pro- longed periods of time the nightbefore the exam. The student who pre- 1.h► pares a bit each night in the last few weeks will do much better than the stu- dent who crams at the last minute. It's also important to ask other students who have had exams about the experi- ence so as to gain a better understanding of the entire process. This can be a tense time for students and the anxiety related to the examination process is entirely counterproductive. The student needs to find a coping process that helps to reverse the tensions before and during an exam. The mental readi- ness of a student is as important to a good grade as all the studying in the world. When a student starts to study they need to have hope that they will do well if they work at it. We see success in any field where the power of a positive approach is practiced. Last week the school was closed twice. I ask parents and students to stay tuned to their radio station of choice for clo- sure announcements. At St. Anne's we listen to the advice of our bus compa- nies. There are seven carriers who service the school on a variety of runs from all around the county. We contact CKNX at FM ` 102.,CFPL at AM980 and CBC at FM 93.5. The decision about closure is not made hasti- CROSSWORD 4 illiMailikill EOM 1111■ 14 ' ■■■■ r■■■1617 111111 a 19 ill ■r ill WI■■ 23 24 ■■■■ 25 ■■■ ill ■• A29 il ■■■ ill ■■■ a■■■■ 33 ■■■ 34 36 all 111 a a48 a■rrr■ ■■41■r■■■ 47 38 39 ■■ 42 ■■■■■ • 43 ■■■44■■ 48 49 rr. 52 ■■■ Mal" al 11 57 58 ■■ a■■r r 57rr■ ■1111 63• ■■■■ al III ACROSS. 1. The school trans- portation policy is clear about the process. The ultimate concern is safety of students and staff on the way to or from school. It is important to note that the choice to send students home during the day is a very serious one. The bus companies again advise us and we are always concerned about sending the busses out early as the average dri- ver is not aware the busses are on the road. During whiteout condi- tions that can pose a very serious hazard. We are in frequent contact with the bussing companies during the day and also are kept up to date on accurate information about road conditions around the county, Our school is unique in that one part of the county may be closed down and inaccessible while anoth- er area may be clear and open. Have a safe week. .=s` • .s w -.
