Acting works superintendent says it's time to drop the acti

TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
HENSALL — Derek
Robinson says two years
of 'acting' is enough.
Hensall's acting works
superintendent, Robinson
asked village council at its
Monday meeting to drop
the acting from his title
and give him the full
salary of the job.
"It's been two years
since I've been acting
works superintendent,"
Robinson said. "Is that
ever going to change?"
He noted the Pict a pro-
posed merger. between
Hensall, Bayfield, Hay,
Stanley, Tuckersmith and
Zurich won't happen till
at least 2001.
Council appointed
Robinson acting superin-
tendent and have kept it
that way because of the
ongoing amalgamation
talks with surrounding
municipalities. The ratio-
nale was there might be
works staff layoffs from
the former municipalities
after amalgamation and
that Robinson's acting
role was a temporary one.
AH current works
employees of the pro-
posed merging municipal-
ities can apply forthe
works superintendent
post with the new munici-
pality.
"The bottom line is
wages," Robinson said
continuing to plead his
case. "Am I not doing the
job properly?"
He added two years is
an abnormally long pro-
bation period.
Coun. Rod Parker
moved to either drop the
acting from Robinson's
title or to at least set up a
meeting to discuss the
matter.
"He's come to us with a
question and we owe it to
him to look into it as soon
as possible," Parker said.
Council will meet In an
in -camera session at 8
a.m. on Jan. 30 to discuss
all village employee
wages.
