Grand Bend council
won't change 'no
snowmobiles' bylaw
GRAND BEND — The
village is holding firm to
its bylaw which states
there can be no snowmo-
biles within village limits.
Mayor Cam Ivey asked
council at its Monday
night meeting if it wanted
to change the bylaw.
Council said no.
Although snowmobiles
aren't allowed in the vil-
lage, deputy mayor Bob
Mann said many snow-
mobilers don't know it
because the village hasn't
posted any signs indicat-
ing snowmobiles aren't
allowed.
Ivey said a person had
approached him recently
explaining since Grand
Bend is a tourist attrac-
tion snowmobile ,should
be anolVed.- "aye tt be
is symptetic to that
viewpoint, but added he
has seen snowmobilers
driving on village side-
walks, a danger to pedes-
trians.
"Where are you when
one of these guys decides
to be a speed jockey?" he
asked.
Coun. Brian Knights
said he was concerned
about the safety of the vil-
lage's citizens, particular-
ly youngsters and pedes-
trians. He added not all
snowmobilers break the
village's bylaw, but some
do.
"A few spoil it for every-
body else," he said before
suggesting council keep
its existing bylaw.
Coun. Phil Maguire
agreed the bylaw should
remain, but he explained
it is hard to find a solution
for the snowmobiling
problem.
Ivey said the village
can't_eree the bylaw

snowmobiles are allowed
in the village. Village
administrator Paul
Turnbull said even with
signs it would be hard for
the village to enforce the
bylaw.
