January 1 was a nice welcome to the new year, however, the weath- er on January 2 was a reminder that winter has finally settled upon us. With the warm tempera- tures we have previously enjoyed, Lake Huron is open water. The westerly winds may bring us lots of snow for outdoor activi- ties. • Roads were closed overnight in the Centralia area on January 2 due to very poor visibility and blowing and drifting snow. Several cars slid off the roads and into ditches as a result of the difficult dri- ving conditions. Remember to adjust your driving habits for the road conditions and find out if the roads are safe for dri- ving. Centralia and Zion West United Churches did not hold their regular worship services on January 3. The first worship services of the new: year will be held at the regular times on January •10. The sacra- ment of baptism will be celebrated at that time. Upcoming activities Centralia U.C.W. will old their first meeting o the new year on January 7. The meeting will be held at 8 p.m. at the church. Euchre In Crediton on December 28, Irene Theander and Harold Hodgins were the High Hand winners.
