fund will be $251,000 short. The board will receive
$7.8 million which is 3 percent less than last year.
Some factors to. the shortfall include the school year
being longer and the junior kindergarten students
going to school.

* Sunney Dinney and Dave Farquhar have been
named South Huron's students of the' year at this
year's formal. Both students have made important
contributions to the school.
* Exeter and Stephen rate payers got a big break
when they received a total of $5,276,615 from the
Provincial Water Protection fund to improve their
sewage treatment plants. The grants will allow the
two to.pool their resources.
* Ninety-eight. first-year undergraduates from
Western Ontario.. toured South Western Ontario hos-
pitals on June 8. Both Selig Krajden.and Doldy spent the week in Exeter shadowing local doe
tors.
June 17th, 1998
* Steve Rasenberg foiled break-in on own home
after coming home from a jog. Three thieves broke
into the Rasenberg's house but twa managed to get
away when confronted by Rasenberg. One was left
inside. The male and the female. who took off were
later arrested but the other female Is still at large.
June 24th, 1998
* For the second time in just over a month, South
tltiron hospital -has experienced a shortage of doc-
tors for their emergency room service.. On Juno
19th, the emergency room was closed from Sam to
bpm.
*School sports for next school year have been put
on .hold. The teachers, because of extra class time,
are not coaching any more sports for next season.
The band has also been put In limbo.

July 1st, 1998
*South Huron Hospital has been given a $250,000
grant In a one time payment to help with restructur-
ing. MPP Helen Johns has assured the hospital the
cheque was in the mall.
* Another doctor shortage has forced Exeter hos-
pital administrator Don Correll to shut down emer-
gency services. This time it was .for six days. Out of
.93 shifts, through the month of July, three were to
be filled by local doctors and over .60 were filled by
doctors from Stratford and London.
* More than 100 fish die in the Ausable River in
Exeter due .to lack of rainfall. Rainfall creates oxy-
gen in the river which Is practically non-existent..
The outlet at the Parkhill dam was also of similar
state. .
July 8th, 1998
* The emergency room shutdown that was previ
ously expected due to a lack of doctors was averted
Local doctors pulled .together and filled the remain-
ing spots.
*The town of Exeter broke off amalgamation talks
with Grand Bend and will focus on its amalgamation
efforts with south Iluron County. A .letter from
Minister of Municipal Affairs and !lousing Al Leach
is expected to advise Grand Bend to stay in Lambton
county.
* The smoking pit at South Huron will once again
be moved to the east -side of the school. The previ_
• ous spot caused smoke to pour into the lower level of
the school and concerns about second. hand smoke
resulted.
July 15th, 1998
* The municipalities of !mean and Biddulph pass a.
merger resolution which officially paves the .way for
them to -amalgamate on Jan. 1. 1999. If the county'
council approves the merger motion, it then goes to
the desk of Al Leach.
* The 1998 Exeter requires an increase of $89 O(,.1
over last year's total from the residential tax sector
but no tax increase will happen.
* A -field fire at a wheat field along llwy. 81 was
brought. under .control by Grand Bend firefighters
'vithin 15 minutes of them getting there. About five
(1 65 acres were, destroyed but nobody was hurt.
July 22nd, 1998
* 'Twelve firearms were seized from an Exeter
home after -the Ol'P executed a drug search warrant.
The weapons include- three black powder guns. .22
-caliber rifles, shotguns and pellet guns.
* Seaforth Illgh School hats been named the'per-
malnent hurne-of the Avon Maitland School Board
offices. 'Trustees also voted to spend $1 million -on
renovations.
* Throe constables of the Exeter (H'P detachment
now make tip the Exeter's (1PP Intrepid .bike patrol.
