St. Boniface news
Students and teachers were busyrehearsin and
planning for the School Christmas Concert. The rb he early years class has been busy learning about

Grade 8 and was held in. Si. Bonifyce Church. The
acoustics in the church enhanced the vocal presenta-
tions and everyone enjoyed the enthusiasm and vari-
ety of songs performed. The Grades 7 and 8 presen-
tation of the First Christmas -and a reflective tableau
on Christmas' true Meaning ended the concert.
The Senior Boys' and Girls' volleyball teams have
been playing extremely WO) and look to be ready for
Zone competition in early January..
The students will begin -work on their speeches 1'or
January and will be busy planning 1'or this year's
Science Fair.
St. Patrick's School
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

During the week- of Mondaay. December 14, the
Student•Courrcil at St. Patrick's School, Lucan, will be
holding various Christmas activities. Grades JK to 8
will have a colouring contest from Monday to
Thursday, and .a red/green day on Friday. As for the
grades 6, 7 and 8, they will be invited to a dance in
the school gym. As well, en Thursday, there will be a
Christmas dinner during noon hour for the whole
school. So have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy
New Year! -

October, 30,. at St."Patrick's School, Lucan,
Student Council. held Hallowe'en activities in
gym. The grades 1 to 5 had activities like bobbing
apples, obstacle.courses, limbo, Musical chairs an
candy treat at the end. In the afternoon, the grade
to 8 had a dance in the gym. All had a fun day.
Remembrance Day

On November 11 there was a memorial field at t
Lucan Community Center. St. Patrick and Biddulp
students both took part in -the service, inrludir
speeches, psalms, laying of -the wreaths, two minut
of silenee, and colour parties. Some officers cam
and talked to us about the wars that are still go'
on today. The Lucan Legion held a colouring conies
poem, Biddulph Choir for leading us through song.

The grade ones have been very busy pract
their play, 'A RAinbow Christmas'. They have
had a lot of fiat playing Christmas Bingo.
The grade 2/3 class has been working hard a
animal unit as well as learning to county by tens.
The grade 3/4 class has been. busy writing
practising their Christmas play. They have also
pared items for the newspaper.
Grade five and six have been doing surveys, s
piing and analyzing in math class. They also learn
a clogging dance for the concert. •

holidays approach the students of McGillivray are
deeply into the Christmas spirit. Everyday in the
morning we gather in the gym to sing Christmas c•ar-
g els while the -school is covered with Christmas deco-

With basketball practices, concert rehearsals

December was a busy month in -both kindergarten

green day, lit advent candles, painted Christmas tree
I . .decorations, and sang on stage. at the Christmas con-
• cert. Also, in December, Melissa, Amber and- Josie
• had birthdays. -
Grade Ones enjoyed preparing a dance and singing
for the concert which was about the First Christmas.
We went to the Lannbtun Museum to see how people.
celebrated Christmas long ago. When we come back
alter a holiday of making snowmen and tobogganing
we'll do- some experiments with snow and ice and
talk. about bears and other hibernating animals:

Grade Two was busy in • December learning about
our ancestors and family heritage. We discussed that
most of our ancestors came from Ireland, England
.and Scotland. We learned about some of the
Christmas traditions of these countries. We also trav-
elled to the Larnbton Heritage Museum in Grand
Bend and learned about the Christmas customs of
'Victorian England and compared them to our tradi-
tions today.

The Boys volleyball team did very well and all o
their games were close. They -took turns being cap
tain and they were Dan- Crowley, Robert Goodale

The Girls volleyball team had an exciting season.
The girls Worked hard playing against some very
competitive teams. The team captains were Heather
Marr and Andrea Bulanda., l heir teammates were
,Jessica Legault; Diane Damen, Jenhy Vanlaneri.
Katie Cook, Natalie Hazzard, .Janice. Duynesveld,
Kate D'agleisti, Chelsey Laird. Jodi Vankasteren,
Melanie O'Leary and Christina Hoggart. They want
to thank their coach, Mrs. Vamieste, who put a lot of
hard work into the season. ,: -
'h'he St. Patrick hor•l team was in a tournament
on November 26. They won two games, tied one arid
they lost one. They were.one point away from. going
to the finals. Congratulations to all of the tears mem-.

Mr. Bonduro was coaching and running a house
league touch football league for girls and boys -in
grades 6 to 8. The students would like to thank the
school council .for supplying, the'footballs and Mr.
Bonduro for running the league. The winners of the
league "superbowl” were the Packers for the boys,
and the 49ers for the girls.
Students from grades 4 to 8 practiced all
September and finally, in October, went to the cross

The McGillivra Mustan

First of all, .we would like to congratulate one of
McGillivray's staff member„ Mrs. Kernic-k and her
husband Mr. gernick on the safie and happy delivery'
of her new -baby girl, Marlee Kenrick.
Recently, the• grade 8 students of Me;Gillivray and
' the Von Homme Program held a seniors' lunch at
the MccGillivray Town Hall. Volunteers prepared the
meal and it was enjoyed by all of,the guests who
attended. Afterwards, all the seniors went back to
the school'- to enjoy a Christmas concert, Achoo, the
sneeze -that saved Christmas performed -by the pri-
mary grades. The junior choir also'perfbrmed.
After finishing a unit on- Medieval Times, (Fie grade
3's had a Medieval feast in the gymnasium. they
dressed up. in medieval costumes. The class leaf'ned
a great deal while having a lot of fun.
On December 13th,the Lanibton County- Heritage
Museum decorated our gym with a theme of
"Pioneer Christmas". Throughout.the day four mem-
bers of the museum explained to each grade •
the ways of life during a pioneer Christmas: 'Th'e
topics. discussed were decorations, transportation,
• food, gills and clothing
During Remembrance Day, the Legion of Ailsa

Medieval Times. We
made.•_
shields, wrote letters to The King, and were enter-
tained by a group called, "Historically Speaking'.
They brought to W;e many, traditions for the Gr., 3/4
class. We also had a Christmas Craft day and a
Medieval 1east: January brings' a•'nuvel study

u 4/; class had a. Christmas craft morning and
we made •four crafts to keep or give as gills. A
Medieval'group canie to v?sit •and entertain the chit-
dren. A new teacher, Mrs. Robinson, will be stalling
to teach- from January to June .as Mrs. Drager is •
expecting a baby around January 1, 1999.
Recently Grade 6,7,8 visited the Kitchener
Waterloo Art Gallery and also attended "The Sound
of Music" performance at the Centre in the Square.
Grade 6/7 also visited the Art Gallery in Blyth. Three
students won prizes for •entries in the Exeter
Legions' Remembrance Poster and Writing contest. '
In December; a main drama activity for the Grade..
7/8 class was to write and perform their own,
Christmas play for the c n cert. The result was a play
entitled, "The Gathering", in which a group of well-
known Christmas-charawters temporarily forget- tiie
real meaning of Christmas. Also, just prior to the
hdlid'ays, the 7/8- class along with the 6/7 class
enjoyed a delicious'
