Brent Caslick, MC for the evening, welcomed everyone and opened the program. Marjorie Johns played some familiar car- ols while everyone sang. The toddlers took the stage to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Erin Wells recited a poem entitled A Greeting. Morgan Powe also recited a poem entitled A Perfect Friend. Adam Windsor wished Jesus a Happy Birthday. Jake McLeod recited A Christmas Star. Children from the Junior Class sang Jingle Bells, Faye Skinner read an entertaining Christmas story. Luke Kennedy and Mikayla Skinner showed their talents by playing some songs on the piano. Carrie Powe recited a poem. - The Intermediate Class entertained everyone with a play. Lindsay Powe, Alyssa Dougall, and Chandra Dougall played the piano. The Senior Class also entertained the group with a play. While everyone sang Christmas songs, Santa Claus arrived to visit with the girls and boys. tie asked what they would like for. Christmas and gave then all treats. Centralia United Church Minister Heather Scott led the worship at Centralia United Church on the fourth Sunday in Advent, December 20. She and her husband Peter lit the fourth candle, in the Advent wreath, the candle of live, as well as the candles symbolizing I lope, Peace, and Joy. Several poinsettias were placed in front of the pul- pit in loving memory of Penny Smith. Lorne and Margaret Hern had also contributed a lovely poin- settia in memory of sever- al family members. Rob Essery played sev- oral carols once again on his guitar before worship. Minister Scott thanked him for sharing his music during the Advent season. "i'hey then went downstairs to Sunday School where they enjoyed a birthday party for Jesus organized by the teachers. Everyone sang Happy Birthday. They also sang Happy Birthday to Lindsay Powe. The children also pre- sented fruit baskets to Minister Scott and Marjorie Johns to thank them for their assistance throughout the year. The Sunday School teachers also received. special gifts of thanks. The choir sang the anthem I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day, accom- panied by Marjorie Johns on the piano. Scripture readings were heard followed by the ser- mon entitled Believing in the Impossible. Everyone is invited to the celebration of Christ's birth on Christmas Eve. Worship will be held at 7:30 p.m., and Communion will also be celebrated. Special activities Looking ahead to 1999, written reports for the annual meeting should be submitted to Michelle !fern by January 4. The Sacrament of Baptism will be celebrat- ed on January 10. - Euchre Euchre games were held in the afternoon on November 30 at Larry's Restaurant in Crediton. The high hand winners were Marian Noels and Gil Northey. Doris Pfaff and Olive Essery were the lone hand winners. Low hand winners were Doreen Lightfoot and George Adams. December 14, Doreen Lightfoot and Gil Northey were the high hand win- ners. Mary flapper and Mary Rhame were lone hand winners. Kay Blair and Alwinna Galloway won the low hand. Christmas Greeting I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for your support and encouragement throughout the year. Elderly people with low fluid intake and limited activity should consider 2-3 bowel movements per week as being normal. The idea of having to have a daily bowel movement is unrealistic. One of the common causes of heartburn is overeating, an activi- ty quite prevalent this time of year. It might be a good idea to pass on that second helping of mashed potatoes and gravy... for your stomach's sake. Milk isn't the best remedy for heartburn.
