Thames Road preparing for the Christmas season

THAMESROAD • Rev. Marilyn Carter was in charge
of the First Sunday of Advent Church Service on •
Sunday morning at Elimville.
The congregation sang the introit and Rev. Carter
gave greetings, welcome and the announcements.
Megan Pavkeje lit the first candle in the Advent
wreath, purple for hope.
The responsive reading, was taken from the Service
Book..
Helen Kadey read the Scripture Lesson. The title of
Rev. Carter's sermon was "Let Us Begin... Again".
Floyd and Shirley Cooper received the offering and
were also the greeters. The closing hymn was sung fol-
lowed by the Commissioning and the Benediction.
Upcoming. events
Ail those that took tags last Sunday to share a gift__
- with a child through the Christmas Bureau please
bring your gift to Thames Road Church on December 6
where they will be received during the White Gift ser-
vice.
The Youth Sunday School Class will be having a Time
and Talent Silent Auction starting soon. The closing
bids will be announced after the Sunday School
Christmas Concert.
December 2 the Standing Committee meets at 7 p.m.,
followed by the Council meeting at 8 p.m. at Elimville
Church.
December 3 will be Sunbeams at Thames Road from
9:30 ,- 11:30 a.m. The Sunbeams will be making• a
candy Christmas tree. Cost $1. plus a small bag of
candy. The children are welcome to bring a guest or
grandma.
December 8- U.C.W. meeting at Elimville at 8 p.m.
Theme: Program: Sharon Passmore, Diane Jeffery,
Sandra Rowe, Jean Coward, Jo -Anne Rowe. Roll call:
"Bring a Favorite Christmas recipe"; Gift exchange;
Secret Pal gift, (approx. $5) or exchange a gift in.the
amount of a loonie. Lunch by group W.
On December 16 Jr: Youth Group will be having their,
Christmas meeting from 6.8 p.m. Bring $5. to cover
the cost of supper.

ly, Ilank, Mirjam, Ilenk, Wilfred and Mirjam.
Get well wishes are extended to Glen Stewart who
has been a patient in South Huron Hospital.
Bill and Rhoda Rohde visited on Tuesday evening
with Ben and Karen Geiger at Zurich and on Friday
with Jean Johns in St. Marys.

Craft and bake sale in Exeter
EXETER - The Legionaries and Jack Brintnell's stir-
ring story of the war had seniors remembering their
own experiences at Dining for Seniors.
November 3 the first craft and bake sale was held.
Bingo was enjoyed by all
Connie. Townsend, food counselor for "Queensway"
Hensall, spoke on cooking for one and using Canada's
Food Guide for a healthy lifestyle on November 17.
On November 24, Max and the Townliners with their
lively music had seniors dancing and keeping time to
familiar Songs.
Prize winners for the month were,: Mary Smits, Helen
Hindle, George Van Horne, Beatrice Munn, Don Jolly,'
Humphrey Arthur, Doris Denham, Phyllis Case and

Bea Dykstra.
Winners of the 50/50 draw were: Mary Neil, and isa
Smith.
Cards were signed for Phyllis Moomerstreeg and
Gerry Dobrindt.
Birthdays for the month were Don Stuart, Gerry
Dobrindt and Alan Buswell.
Warm welcome to hazel ,Pryde, Mr. and ,Mrs.
Bagshaw and Karen and Bob Speight.
Keyboard players for the month were Wilma Davis,
Jean l lodgert, Josie Ryckman and Maxine Serecla.

LUCAN — A new documentary film on the infamous
Donnellys will be previewed at Lucim's Ausable Centre
Sunday.
Producer Tom Barton will be on hand to talk ,about
his work in progress.
Seating is limited for the 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
showings. The preview is free and is ,presented by
Lucan Area lldritage. •

POLICE BRIEFS
Liquor and cash stolen
EXETER — Thieves stole $1,000 worth ,of liquorand
a $200 cash float from South Huron Rec Centre
overnight Nov. 25.
The thieves were already in the building. likely,dur-
ing hockey games, and broke off locks leading to the
area with the liquor and float.
"They knew where it was," London OPP Const. Myra
Rusk said.
