Terri and Charlotte Blok and their *daughters,: Heather and Erin; lit the Christ Candle. Scott• spoke with the children about God's cre- ation of people. They then went for Sunday. School time: . Scott's sermon was enti- tled 'Like a Mighty Army?' He talked about_ Christian's and their description .as part of God's army. One of the major similarities with - those who go to war is sacrifice and leaving the life you.knew. Scott asked that every- one assist the Ministry' and Personnel Committee by providing their com- ments. Also there will be - a mitten tree -once again in•the sanctuary until December 6. Mittens, socks, or CPA would be welcome for the children who are in residence at CPRI. Karen Windsor announced that some children are attending the nursery during church. Centralia United Church Women The Centralia UCW met November 5: During the business meeting, the date for the Christmas meeting was announced as December 3 with Group * in charge of the. dinner and- Group 11 to prepare the program. • Etta Powe opened the program with a poem, Late Autumn. Madalene. Tasko read the scripture and led the group in prayer. The. poems, Flanders Field and In A Bulb There is a Flower, were presented . by Adeline Elliott: Lois Wilson, accompanied by Marjorie Johns, provided a solo entitled 1 Believe in Miracles. Guest speaker Laurie Shapton was introduced by Etta Powe, Shapton gave a very interesting talk on the trip. to India she had recently taken. Janet Hicks modelled while Shapton showed how to drape a sari. The group also enjoyed a video of their journey. Madalene Tasko thanked Shapton for sharing her trip highlights with the group. Thepregrant concluded with a closing thought by Ralph Waldo Emerson. A lunch was ,then served. . Upcoming meetings The Session from Centralia • . and Zion West will meet, at Centralia on November 12. at 7 p.m. to meet with Lori Stewart, Stewardship Minister from the Conference Office. -All Elders should attend this meeting to begin the process of de"signing a Mission Statement and church profile: There will be a joint Stewards meeting on• mation is. posted on the November 16 at Centralia United Church at 7:30 p.m. to discuss the bud- get. If any committee has budget items, contact Murton Brock or Alan Powe prior the meeting. Special activities Centralia United Church will host its annual Turkey Supper. on November 14. Sittings will be at 5 and 6:30 p.m. The cost is $10 per.adults and $5. for children aged 6- 12. Anyone able to donate pies Is asked to call Alan Powe at 228-6557. Also on. More infer - Cat alerts owner to house fire DASHWOOD —, A Dashwood cat is being credited with saving its owner's life.-, Last Tuesday night, Gary 'Richards fell asleep at his kitchen table when a: fire started in the oven. Fortunately, his cat jumped up on the table and woke, him, according to Jim Hoffman of the Dashwood Fire Department. . The smoke was so thick Richards could hardly see -to. get out of the Main St. apartment, Hoffman said. • Fortunately, damage was minimal and no one was injured. . Although the story has a happy ending, it. concerns Hoffman. - encourage residents to make sure their smoke detec- torswere working. . No ono was living in Richards' apartment at_the time so a detector check was not done.. Hoffman said _ Richards thought the smoke detector was wired into the electrical system and no batteries were required, To complicate. matters further, Richards. didn't have a telephone and. being new to the area, didn't know Dashwood had a fire department and called the Exeter fire department phone number instead, Hoffman said. This delayed the arrival of the fire fighters.
