Remembrance service in Hensall By Us Sangster HENSALL CORRESPONDENT • HI NSALL- - Hensall Carmel Presbyterian Church will be closed on "November 8 due to the Remembrance Day ser- vice at 10 a.m. at Hensall United church. Members of the f lonsall and • District Horticultural Society are advised that ham and turkey will be. supplied for the pot luck supper at Hensall United Church on November 16 at 6 p.m. Since this is our Christmas meeting it. has been suggested that we wear green. - Sunday • November 1 several members of .the liensall Legion enjoyed the Seniors Vets Dinner at the Seaforth Branch. • It was a wonderful after- • noon of entertainment and dinner. On .November —8 -the-Remembrance hay service will be held at Hensall United Church, followed by a short ser - _.vice at the cenotaph. Wednesday, November 11 the Remembrance Day Dinner will .be held at the Hensall Community (:entre. The guest speaker. will be Clare Westcott. There will be a social hour at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 each and are available from any Legion member or at the Branch. The, Hensall Legion Poor. boy lunch will be held Friday November 27. It is ail you can eat, for only $5 per person. Call Women's Institute learns . about literacy By Roberta Templeman S r 1FFFA CORRESPONDENT STAFFA - Joyce Miller was Staffa's voting delegate at the London Area. Convention held in Kirkton Community Centre 'on Thursday. On October 28 at 9:30 a.m. Staffa Women's Institute members met at the- home hehome of Esther Sniale for their regular meeting with 10 women present. In the absence of our president Kay . Smale, Joyce Miller presided, opening the meetingwith the Institute Ode and Mary Stewart Collect. For the program, two videos were watched. From watching the Literacy video the women learned that shopping and paying bills can be very difficult and frustrating for those that` have difficulty reading. They also learned that they should become more aware of this problem and to try and get the right people involved to help and encourage reading. They. all. relived the final meeting of Hibbert Township council through the video.of the last meeting. Following the meeting, lunch was served by Nancy Lane and Esther Samle: Sunday guests with Larry and Alice Gardiner on the weekend were Lois and Ray Scions, Seaforth. Sharon and Lawrence Craven, Ailsa Craig, Mary and John Stoll, Auburn, Grace and Ken Coleman, London; Betty and Gerald Britton, Lambeth, and Marilyn and Ken Thompson of St. Claire Beach. GRAND BEND 238-2511 'Horne for the Holidays' is theme for 4-H group LUCAN - On October 28, the Lucan 111 4H club met at Terry McTaggart's for their fourth meeting of the "Home for. the Holidays" club. The president opened the meeting with the 4-11 Pledge. The secretary read the minutes of the last meeting followed by a discussion about the next meeting and plans for achievement night. The roll call, "Describe one holiday plant you normally have in your home," was answered. A discussion about dif- ferent Christmas greenery and plants followed. The group also started bags and wreaths with a Christmas theme to deco- rate homes. The presi- dent closed the meeting with the 4-11 motto fol- lowed by a snack. A reminder to pet own ers, that effective Janua 1, 1999, all cats and dog are required to be regis tered and Licensed. ti Liquor store 8&E EXETER -- Would-be thieves took the time to break into the 'Exeter Liquor Store between midnight and 8 a.m. on Tuesday but ended up stealing nothing. Exeter OPP Const. Bob Gilmar saidsomeone or a group of people pulled the lock out of the front door to gain entry. About 180 liquor cases were put by the store's back door but were left there.
