EXETER = Three area projects have benefited
from the• federal government's $145 million Mil-
lennium Parinership•Program.
The program helps fund projects that explore.
Canadian heritage.. and achievements- and looks
to the future, according to a press release from
the government. •
Locally, the program provided $20,000 le. C•
hil-
dren's Aid of Huron and Rural Response for
Healthy Children for the Earth Friendly Gardens
Project. Last -spring a- project in McCurdy. Col-
borne and Mount' Carmel schools was conducted,
- to see if there would be community support for
creating organic vegetable, gardens in school
yards. The project, • funded' by Canadian Living
foundation, was in response . to' the hunger ex-
perienced
'by school children. It was intended to
provide to the sttideints a lifelong lesson in self-
sufficiency. •
The..Project is an eflort to create a tIion di
verse environment in area school yards by de-
veloping chemical -free, vegetable gardens. Stu
dents are taught how to garden how to garden ili
an environmentally -friendly way.
• The Millennium Partnership Program also do-
• nated $14,000, towards a project called An Ilis-.
toric Park Walkway Project.in St. Joseph.
The -goal ol'2he project -is to honour the settler~,
•descendants of the settlers and past and. present
residents of St.•,l4Yseph by engraving their names
on a heritage walkway gf interlticicing bricks to
be constructed in an existing park. -
