Irish unlucky streak extends to three
LUCAN — The Lucan .Ir. 1) Irish hock-
ey club are hoping their string of bad
luck ends at strike three.
The Irish are on a three game losing
streak after -losing two games last
week, 5-1 at Parkhill North Middlesex
on Saturday and 7-5 at home versus
Mount Brydges on Wednesday: The los-
ing streak goes back to a 6-1 loss at
Mitchell on Oct. 16.
Parkhill beat up Lucan for three goals
in the first period on Saturday and held
a 4-0 lead till Lucan's Greg Henderson
scored at 13:02 of the third period from
Mark Philips and Bob Grant. Parkhill
scored their last goal ,at 3;23 of the
third.
Lucan gave up three straight power-
play goals, two in the first and one in
the second period.
Mount Brydges erased a three goal
Irish lead after the first period and
scored four unanswered goals in the
third to beat Lucan 7-5 at home
Wednesday.
Scoring for Lucan were Phillips (from
Dan Hardick and Justin Mulligan),
Mulligan (from Kevin Dunbar and
Hardick), Neal Costello (from Phillips
and Dunbar), Henderson (from Andy
Marshall and Grant) and Dunbar (from
Mulligan and Hardick).
Irish co -coach Jason Bukala said
seven of his regulars were serving a
one game suspension on Wednesday
due to a brawl in Mitchell and four
were missing for Saturday's game. But
he added the absence of those regulars
doesn't account for a 5-1 drubbing.
"We've just run into a combination of
things," Bukala said. "We haven't
Played well and-wo've lost our focus.
I'd sooner have -our team go through
difficulties now than in February,"
The Irish are stillbanking on peaking
for the playoffs, he said.
"The guys are not down at all. We
have a very positive outlook on the sea-
son."
Backup -goaltender John Paiva has
been released and is replaced by Marc
Williams who was last year's backup.
Williams was released recently by the
London Jr. 13 Nationals.
Lucan's record stands at 4-5 and
eight points, good for a -tie for third
place in the Morenz Division with
Seaforth. Mitchell leads the Morenz at
6-4-0-2. (wins, losses, ties, overtime
losses), while Thamesford and Belmont
top the Thomas Division Yeck with 15
points each. •
-
Bukala. said his team is moving into
dangerous waters over the next couple
of weeks•including tonight's game at
home versus Lambeth, an 8:15 p.m.
start. and Friday's game in Port
Stanley.
