High school
assault a
"random act
of violence"
EXETER — The Oct. 15
assault at South Huron
District High School was
a "random act of vio-
lence," according to prin-
cipal Debi Homuth.
Homuth is addressing
the issue as an internal
disciplinary action. She
told the T -A she has not
Spoken to the press about
discipline in the past and
doesn't want to start
doing so.
"1 don't think: that it is
likely to happen again. I
think it's connected to an
individual in a particular
situation," Homuth told
the T -A.

welcome to call her with

al parents have done "so

"I don't feel any more
worried about the safety
of the _kids: I feel con-
cerned a kid was hurt,"
she said.
A 17 -year-old male
from S.H.D.H.S. has been
charged with assault
causing bodily harm fol-
lowing a scuffle at the
smoking area between
two students, according
to London 0.P.P.

Main Street
bridge slated
for repairs
EXETER — Council has
passed a bylaw for
repairs to the Main Street
Ausable River bridge in
Exeter:
Initial estimates called
for extensive work but a
closer look at the struc-
ture revealed relatively
minor repairs are
required. Under the con-
necting link agreement,
the province will pay 90
percent of the project
cost and Huron County
will pay 10 percent. The
repair costs are estimat-
ed at $30,448.
More details will be
known after the project is
tendered.

Most 911 signs
up in Usborne

USBORNE TWP. — It's bee
n a proCess but the
911 emergency numbering system in long Huron County has
made visible progress with the erection of property
plates in Usborne Twp.
Usborne Clerk -Treasurer Sandra Strang told the T -A
while most signs are up, there are some missing on
sideroads and a few concessions. Usborne staff have
informed the county 911 committee of the omitted
properties and the signage should

and along Abbey Lane,
Pinewood and Huron St. E.
last week to determine if
there were connections to
the sanitary sewers.Above,

Firefighters on
patrol Saturday
EXETER — Members
of the Exeter and Area
Fire Department will
be patroling Exeter's
streets and alleys on
Hallowe'en.
The firefighters are
volunteering their time
to help ensure the
night of trick and treat-
ing is safe for every-
one.
They will be patrol-
ing in fire department
and personal vehicles.
