June Casey, 56, was travelling northbound on Cty. Rd. 83 at Airport Line in Hay Twp. when she was broadsided by a westbound vehicle driven by Antonio Fernandes, 62,'of RR2 Zurich. Casey died as a result of injuries. sustained at the accident. Fernandes and his wife, a passenger in his,vehicle, were both transported by ambulance to Exeter's South Huron Hospital where they were treated - for minor injuries and released. The OPP continues its investigation.. -. Co-operators not cancelling insurance EXETER — The Co- operators insurance com- pany has no plans to can- cel sewer back-up policies throughout Exeter. "There are no plans for. us to do that," Co -opera tors agent Glenda Gardner told the T=A last week. - The company has can- • celled sewer back-up cov- erage for "two or three" Exeter clientsbecause each homeowner had two similar types of claims. She said the same hap- pens in other types of. insurance. The new position is advertised in. today''s. Times - Advocate and will be paid less than the Clerk - Treasurer but more than the previous Public Works Superintendent. Mayor Ben lloogenboom said the Town's consultant recommended council not release the salary figures. Hoogenboom told the T -A the amount "will be officially released by the next council meeting." The person will report to the Chief Administrative Officer (Rick Hundey) and will be responsible for plan- ning and delivering public works (roads, sewers, solid_ waste), recreation programs and facilities, parks and cemeteries. ,. ZURICH - Council decided at its Oct. 8 meeting to pull out of talks with its municipal restructuring com- mittee of six and pursue amalgamation talks with Hay , Township. Zurich had been meeting with' Bayfield, Hensall and Stanley, Tuckersmith and Hay townships regarding. amalgamation but decided not to go with the group of . six. Coun. Brad Clausius said he didn't like the idea of a central municipal office being located in Stanley Township if the six municipalities amalgamated,• but he did say Zurich and Hay Township have to work . together in amalgamation talks. - Not only did Reeve Dwayne LaPorte support amalga- mation talks between Zurich and Hay, he added the Village of Hensall to the mix and said the three munic- ipalities would make an "interesting" community. He added he couldn't support a two-tier government if the six municipalities amalgamated because there wouldn't be enough savings. He said he would support a two-tier government involving the amalgamation of two' or three municipalities. Coun.
