Zurich favours
restructuring
with HayTwp.
ZURICH - Council decided at its Oct. 8 meeting to
pull out of talks with its municipal restructuring com-
mittee of six and pursue amalgamation talks with Hay ,
Township.
Zurich had been meeting with' Bayfield, Hensall and
Stanley, Tuckersmith and Hay townships regarding.
amalgamation but decided not to go with the group of .
six.
Coun. Brad Clausius said he didn't like the idea of a
central municipal office being located in Stanley
Township if the six municipalities amalgamated,• but
he did say Zurich and Hay Township have to work .
together in amalgamation talks. -
Not only did Reeve Dwayne LaPorte support amalga-
mation talks between Zurich and Hay, he added the
Village of Hensall to the mix and said the three munic-
ipalities would make an "interesting" community.
He added he couldn't support a two-tier government
if the six municipalities amalgamated because there
wouldn't be enough savings. He said he would support
a two-tier government involving the amalgamation of
two' or three municipalities.
Coun. Marg Holmes said she wants the possibility of
a one -tier government seriously looked into.
