The area's minor hockey associ-
ations have dropped the puck for
another season. here's how each
association stacks up -for '9&/99.'..
Exeter- Minor Hockey
Exeter Minor Hockey is offering
programs for each level of boys
hockey from pre -tyke to juvenile
except for bantam. 'Exeter Minor
Hockey president Dave Partridge
sa?d the -lack of a bo¢s bantam
team can be explained away most-
ly with a high' girls to boys birth
ratio that birth year.
Exeter Minor l Jockey will ice two
tyke teams, three novice, three
atom, two peewee, two Midget
and one juvenile team. Each level
will have a rep or Shathrock
League team. The second and
third team per level will play in
either Lambton-Middlesex or AE
(alternative entry) leagues.
So• far, about 270 skaters (same
as last season) have registered for
Exeter Minor hockey this season,
but the number will rise 'to about
280 when all thejuveniles'_have•
signed up.
While the lack of a boys bantam
team hurts the registration num-
bers, girls hockey has exploded in
Exeter. Last year only 'one girls
intermediate team with 21 -skaters
was iced: This year there are two
intermediate teams (26 skaters) as
well as one novice (14 skaters) and
one junior (12 skaters) team. -
Exeter Minor Hockey president
Dave Partridge said the main goal
this year is the same as every year.
"Skill developtnent, player devel-
opment"and,' of course, lots of fun
for the kids," he said.
His association is also working
towards offering teams in each
age division on the boys side and
expanding the girls program.
The Bill Batten Memorial
Tournament for novice, atom and
peewee age players will be held at
South Huron Hec Centre next
month with the AE tourney set -for
over the Christmas holidays and.
the tyke tourney in March.
As for how competitive the
teams look early on, Partridge
likes what he sees.
"I think all our age groups look.
.good," he said. • '
Last 'season .the Exeter AE
Nabisco Atoms notched the all -
Ontario title. Exeter continues to
be a 'CC' centre.
Hensall Minor Hockey
Hensall Minor Hockey offers tyke
to bantam age boys hockey this
season. So far, 135-140 skaters in
total have registered up about 20
from last season. The boy to. girl
. breakdown is about 95 to 40.
The higher number this season
comes from more bantams (now
there will be a rep WOAA team)
and a new Bluewater A/AA atom
girls team. Hensall Minor hockey
president Randy Parker added
each established team also went'
up a couple of players this season
and there are about 15 pre -tykes.
Hensel' and Zurich minor hock-
ey associations tried to ice a com-
bined midget boys team but plans
fell through late last week.
Hensall's novice rep team won
the WOAA title last year, as far as
they •could • have gone since
OMUAs start..at atom. The novice
girls also went as far.as.they could
go by winning. the 1Lambton-
Middlesex title while the •tiantains
won the 'B' Lambton-Middlesex
house league championship.
Hensall remains an 'E' centre.,
Lucan Minor Hockey
Like Exeter .Minor hockey,
Lucan Minor Hockey's gids ranks
have skyrocketed this season,
from about 35 last season to ,54
this year. The total registration
hovers in the 250.skater range
(196. boys). •
On the boys Pirie, the! ' will be
three tyke lean; i. 1 ,u i +vice,
three atom, two it ,r : and. one
each in bantam ,uid midget. There
will be four giris ,!ams: an under -
10; junior, midget. and the
Bluewater A/AA intermediate
team. ' '
Boys age divisions with multiple
teams will ice them in a mixture of
Shamrock, Lambton-Middlesex.
and AE.I.eagues. '
Lucan Minor, Hockey president
Glenn Silver said he isenthusiastic
about the season.
"Looking ,at what we've got, we
have an experienced executive
that wants to work together,"
Silver said, adding there are sever-
al experienced coaches behind the'
benches this season.
"All teams will be in the top half
of their divisions from what I've
seen," Silver said.
Lucan Minor .Hockey -will cele.-
Witte
ele-br'ate its 50th year in '99. Stay
tuned for all the special events.
- The association will host five
tournaments this season: the atom
tourney (Nov..20-22), junior girls
(Dec, 28), atom AE '(Dec. 29),
novice AL'.(Dec. 30) and tyke (Dec.
31).
Last year Lucan Minor. Hockey
teams.brought home two titles: the
novice,zone championship•and the
bantam Shamrock banner.
Lucan Minor Hockey rep teams
will again compete as a '1)I)' cen-
tre.
Stephen Minor Hockey •
Registration is up this year from
last for Stephen Minor Hockey •
