South Hum! Uistrti f Hiy►it School •
• South.Huron District High Schol opened as doors
to W O sitidents on September) ti► mark the begin-
' ping of its .50th year as it secondary school.
"Lite students were greeted with a sparkling clean
.facility thanks to the dedication of a terrific custo-
dial stall. The secretaries had placed the Bowers and
fruit on the counter welcoming back everyone who
alinc into our newly refurbished main office. The
students' council had posted paper stars with tonics
orf them all over the halt walls- one fur eery person
who goes t0 school or works here. The place was
titled with colour, noise and laughter- It was clear
to. me that the magical "hack to school" feeling
. was in the air.
Fresh starts and new beginnings are good. for all of us. They are
filled with such excitment and potential. (inc of my jobs, I believe, is
to keep the tremendous energy and optimism that a new school sea-
son brings percolating throughout the year..
'there isa great deal that is gaud about this school; but continuous.
improvcincnt roust he what we are aboni. In Order to focus our col-
- Iectivc energy tin building on our strength.~ and improving our weak-
nesses; a set of goals and priorities needs to be developed for this
school year. Tlie groundwork will be laid at a planning session atter
school on September 9: Parents from the school council will juin ire
the process to provide shat important perspective on what is needed
from parents' perspectives if we are to continue W grow as a school
community. .
Parents should be aware that the Student Planners were distributed
on the •first day. Contained in the planner are the dates of exams.
School holidays, report card distributions, parents' nights, informa-
•
tion on attendance; behavior rules and. special costs. All parents are
strongly encouraged to road the planner carefully. We have no other
means of getting this-infonuation.home to you, so do spend tinge
reading it this week. -
Understanding and respecting each, othcr's work as parents and
educators requires Tots of communicating. 'ibis weekly article is
intended to help the process. • The children and young people of our
families and schools are our most valuable resource. They deserve
our collective best effort - parents. educators and support staff. • i
look forward to working with you on their behalf.
