How could 'we go wrong:" So we lined up .for our tickets an hour before and waited for- the. show to begin. The manager suddenly appeared at the front of the. audi- toriudi to make an announce- ntent. The movie had .graphic:, grotesque material and if we • found it disturbing within the first 20 minutes our money would be refunded: There was some light nervous laughter as we tried to prepare ourselves for the great unknown. it did not take long for the gore and - guts. to be graphically'por- trayed, the fighting at Omaha Beach showed the horrendous Toss of life and limb that the young men went through: First was a young man who lost his arm ,and went back to retrieve its and.this was followed try hun- dreds of gut wrenching images of boys being killed in the water and on the beaches. the manager lied when he told 'as that the .first few minutes was to be our trial of fire. The entire show was filled with images of explicit decapitations and disemhowclments with all of the evils -and horrors of 'war .thrown in for .gobd measure. At times colic's only salvation was to shut your eyes and hope that the graphic scenes ,would quickly pass but sadly the horrors endured. The ordeal lasted nearly three hours and. at the end a ,woman beside me wiped her eyet and told her friend that she was exhausted. -The capacity crowd exited the theatre quickly without a. word spoken'. Ella -and 1 sat 'deathly still watching the credits trying to compose ourselves and' bring' forth some furor of reason to the madness we had ,just viewed.
