At Hensall United Church On I • 101 had accompanied a man to a counselling session and was privileged to sit with him Through it. The counsellor was offering some good counsel but the words that struck my heart were these, "We must he like a turtle: hard on the outside and soft on the inside." The explanation is simple. With all the things that are thrown at us we need to develop a shell that's hard and allows those "fiery darts" to deflect and cause us no injury. How many people do we all know who are offensive and abusive in all thev do. Many of them are acting out of their own pain but it can still hurt if we don't have that protective shell. However. the real challenge is keeping the inside soft itid tender. A shell on the outside is not needed if the heart has hardened.- Nothingcan penetrate it anyway. But with a tender, soft heart - we can stiff reach out in compassion -and walk with those who are hurting. What a delicate balance the shell and inner parts have. How easy to allow the wounds and hurts of this world to make us hard in and out. God help me to he like the turtle.- That's the point. A Point to Ponder hi Rev. Vernon Jean Exeter Pentecostal Tabernacle Graduate - Keri Rutten. Congratulations on your gradu- ation from Brock University, St. Catherines, Ont. receiving your B.A. and B.
